ENTRIES FOR THE LAT0NIA HANDICAP Cudgel, Purchase, Lucullitc and Other Stars Included Among Nominations for Opening Day Attraction. CINCINNATI, O., September 20. The opening stake race of the coming Latonia meeting, which gets into swing Wednesday, September 24, will be the Latonia Handicap, a race for three-year-olds and over at one mile and a sixteenth with ,000 added. This race takes the place of the Inaugural Handicap given by the former management. Fifty-four entries have been secured, including such stars of the turf as Dunboyne, Lucullite, Purchase, Cudgel, War Pennant, Hilly Kelly, Vexatious and all the good western horses. General manager Winn is in a quandary as to his stake dates. At the present time it looks as though the worlds series baseball games will be played in Cincinnati and until these dates are definitely settled Colonel Winn does not want to name the date of the running of the Latonia Championship Stakes. It is likely that there will be racing on the days the teams play in Cincinnati, although it has been suggested to the management to start racing at 0:30 or 10 oclock in the morning, which would give them time to complete the seven race program about 1 oclock and give everyone an opportunity to attend both the races and the ball games. Then again, it has been suggested to lay off on the baseball days, inasmuch as there are two open dates before the races begin and three open days before Churchill Downs opens. It is not likely that more than five ball games will be played in Cincinnati all told. However, this does not set well with the L.ttonia management and it is likely that there will be no change in the opening date, or the meeting will not be extended. The only thing Colonel Winn wants to avoid is having the Latonia Championship race run on a day on which there is a ball game. He has tentatively set Saturday, October 11, as the day, but does not wish to make an official announcement of the same until he is certain there will be no ball game. Entries to the Latonia Handicap follow: Latonia Handicap, ,000 added, for three-year-olds and over.
