AMBASSADOR COMES TO AMERICA Bought in England ly A. B, Hancock and tho Maryland Belair Stud. ItY EXILE. LEXINGTON, Ky., September 20. One of the most important and far reaching transactions in the thoroughbred world is the purchase by A. It. Hancock and the AVilliam Woodards Rclnir Stud of Collington, Md., of the eight-year-old English stallion Ambassador and the transfer of a haif interest by Mr. Hancock to the P.elair Stud of the stallions Wraek, Rock View and Jim Gaffney. Ambassador is already well and favorably known to thoroughbred horsemen on this side of the Atlantic, as the sire of the Spinaway winner Constancy, which r.lo finished third to Man o War in. the running of the Hopeful Stakes, and lias since won good races at Havre de Grace and Pelmont Park, and must be considered about the best two-year-old filly of this year. Ambassador won as a two-ycar-o;d a mai.lcn plate at Newmarket, the July Stakes over tho same course, beating Honeywood, and ran third, ngai-; finishing in front of Honeywood, fx. the Manchester Autumn Rreeders Foal Plate or So, 000. As a three-year-old Ambassador won the Chippenham Plate, one and one-half miles, and was also Mrst for the ,000 one and one-quailor miles -Lingf i.-ld Iark Autumn Stakes. Honeywood beat him a lead for the Cambridgeshire, the pair finishing ahead of Diadumenos, Maiden Erleigh and the St. Loger winner Black Jester. Drown Prince, brother to Ambassador, won outright the Cambridgeshire and other good races. They are sons of Dark Konald Excel-ienza. by limit Prion, a good winning son of St. Simon, which was sent to Australia, there to score success as a sire. Dark Ronald won the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot, beating Avitli all ease the American champion Sir Martin, and afterward won the one and one-half miles Princess of Wales Stakes, 0,000, at Newmarket, beating Primer, the St. Leger winner; Your Majesty and a good field, among which was White Eagle. Gulboyaz, the granddam of Ambassador, is by the Derby winner Bend Or, dam Sultana, by Oxford. Sultana is tho dam of Eothen, sire of the Futurity winner Requital and that good ra.ee horse and. sire Ethelbert. The family runs on down to Merope, granddam of Galopin, by Voltaire, and this the No. 3 family, the tap root of which is the dam of the Two True Rlues. At present there- is a Hampton boom in England. The dead Jiayardo during his all flii-ilioct stud career got those two good horses, both of them winners of the Derby, and this years Oaks winner, IJayuda. Buyardo is by Dark Ronalds sire, Bay Ronald, son of Hampton. Wrack, Rock View and Jim Gaffney are well-bred liorses, all three of them having already achieved success as sires. Wrack has begun operations with a flourish, having this, season no less than six winning juveniles, among them the Grab ISag winner Blazes. Rock View in this, his first season, is the sire of the Tomboy winner Wedding Cake, and Jim Gaffney has a well-established reputation as the sire of Dodge, Franklin, Scnnings Park, War Pennant and other winners.
