LEXINGTON MEETING CLOSES i i Blazes an Easy Victor in the Breeders Futurity, t Peace Pennant Second, hut Cotton Blossom Runs Unplaced Pool Rides Three Winners. i i liElNC.TON, Ky., Septomlicr 20. Captain Ral Parrs good colt RIazes accounted for the Rreeders Futurity Stakes, wortli ,018.50 net. with ridiculous ease from Peace Pennant anil Lorraine, with Cotton Rlossom far back and never dangerous at any time, having begun slowly and failed at any part to show any of the high speed that she had heretofore displayed in her unbeaten performances. RIazes, on the other hand, showed improved form over his preceding race here, for he dashed into a good lead at once and Robinson took no chances, but allowed him free rein to increase his advantage! with every stride. Peace Pennant was ids closest pursuer during the entire race, with Lorraine heading tlie others. Cotton Blossoms performance was a distinct disappointment, but she showed symptoms of soreness while going to tlie post, and though beginning with the others was last in a jiffy. She closed up -some ground near tlie end, but of no great amount. By finishing second Peace Pennant earned for his owner ,781 and Lorraine received .50. Bread Man, for finishing in fourtli place, took 15. A. B. Hancock, the nominator of Blazes, receives 00, and C. W. Moore, who nominated Peace Pennant, gets 00. Lorraines nominator, former Senator Johnson N. Camden, adds 00 ,to his portion. In addition to first money apt. Ral Parr was presented with a handsome silver pitcher and six goblets. The running of the Breeders Futurity was responsible for a record attendance being on hand to view the sport. In addition to tlie stake feature secretary Shelley had provided an excellent card, and it brought about entertaining racing. The track showed traces of yesterdays drenching and was dull, but improving rapidly as the afternoon progressed. Tlie weather was warm, but excepting occasional rain flurries little rain fell. The social element was conspicuously present and prominent persons from, adjacent points contributed largely to 1111 the club section and private boxes. Jockey Pools riding was a feature of the final day, that rider scoring with three of his mounts. His opening success came on Stockwell and was followed with Friz and High Cost in succession. With High Cost lie furnished an upset for that racer under his heavy impost of 124 pounds, was not regarded as good enough to take Rlackie Daws measure, but Pool outgeneraled Dnrsch on the latter and scored . easily. Pool also rode a strong finish on Friz, which, in a measure, contributed to that colts success. Stockwell, his other winning mount, was much the best and won as tlie rider pleased. LONG-DISTANCE RACE TO PROSPECTOR. The ,000 handicap at a mile and an eighth furnished a victory for Prospector, with Piedra. winner of the ,000 Lexington Cuii Handicap, in second place, and Prospectors stablemate Mistress Polly in third place. The opening race went to Opportunity after a hard drive to defeat Nobleman, which ran a good race, but weakened slightly near the end. Jockey C. Robinson, who came here to ride Blazes, made it a double victory for the afternoon by piloting Rcdlaud. Incidentally he hooked .up with his nearest riding rival for this seasons lienors and outfiiiislicd Master Murray. Robinson returned to Maryland tonight. The meeting just terminated exceeded tlie expectations of the management and R. L. Baker, who is the guiding spirit of the track here, was highly elated over the results. He stated that the patronage was the best ever at this course during the fall term of racing and that the wagering was ulso in excess of any autumn meeting. This was a field day in the matter of thoroughbred horse breeding, for Arthur B. Hancock, master of Claiborne and Ellerslie Studs, aside from being the breeder of Blazes, the winner of the Breeders Futurity, owns tlie sire and dam of Constancy, winner of the Eastern Shore Stakes at Havre de Grace today, and he likewise is the breeder of Hobey Raker, which finished second in that race. During the; day lie bought from I. C. Milam the mare Sumner Night dam of Midnight Sun, winner of the Toboggan Handicap at Havre de Grace, by Star Shoot, anil he is the breeder of Crank, a son of Celt, which finished second to Midnight Sun. "To say that I am pleased with the general result of our meeting would be to mildly express my feelings," said manager Robert L. Baker at the close of the day. "I was satisfied that if we did not enrounter bad weather we would have a better meeting than we had last fall, hut am happy to say that in every respect, taking the daily aver-! age for basis of comparison, it approached the last spring meeting. I feel that the public lia ex-. pressed its approval by its patronage, and if the Kentucky Jockey Club directors sanction my recom-. mendations, as I believe they will. I can promise the people more grandstand room and the horsemen better stabling for next spring. I am hopeful that every cent of the money we have made this fall will be expended in improvements."
