MISS JOY VERSUS M0RVSGH Great Interest Aroused Over Probable Meeting at Saratoga Next Saturday. SARATOGA, N. Y., August 10. Morvichs fin race in the United States Hotel Stakes on Saturday buoyed up the hopes of his supporters, who had begun to entertain some doubt as to his ability to take Miss Joys measure. Opinion, which seemed to favor the Kentucky filly after her performances in the Flash and Schuylerville Stakes, both of which she won in convincing fashion. Is now more equalized with regard to the colts ruling favorite over the filly when both meet under equal weight conditions. Of course, both owners feel sanguine that they possess the superior youngster and banteringly expressed to each other such beliefs Monday morning when they met. "I believe," said owner Black, "that when Miss Joy and Morvich meet the time of the race will equal, if not better, the 1:11 that Morvich made Saturday." Owner E. R. Bradley, who was one of the group and heard the remark, promptly laid a wager that the rae would not be as fast as that of Saturday. "Miss Joy will not have to extend herself at the finish, for she will dispose of Morvich in the fiist half mile and come home unattended, making it unnecessary for her to run fast to win out," said Mr. Bradley. Owner Black then laughingly remarked, "Ill have to bet you that Miss Joy does not beat my colt." "All right," replied Mr. Bradley, "Five hundred dollars she beats him." This was later raised to ,500. The only stipulation is that both youngsteis must start, preferably next Saturday In the Saratoga Special, in which botli can meet under scale weight, with Morvich carrying 122 pounds and Miss Joy 110. It is generally accepted that they will meet in this event, but there is a possibility of their meeting being deferred. This is due to the fact that the owner of Morvicli has no subscription in the race and is depending on the one . which Max Hirsch holds. Arrangements for its transfer are now under way, but if the colt starts in the race he will carry Max Hirschs silks. Kcntuekians will have an opportunity next fall to witness the great Morvich in action if the plans of trainer Burlew do not go astray. He was entered in several of the two-year-old fixtures to be run at Latonia and Louisville, his entry being registered after his United States Hotel Stakes victory. Trainer Burlew has every intention of sending him to Kentucky to start in several of the fixtures, and he is also intending him for the Kentucky Derby next spring. Another newcomer that intends to campaign in Kentucky in the fall is former jockey Fred Taral, Of international fame, who is now in charge of the Riviera Stable. This establishment is a formidable one and is constantly making additions, with a view to becoming an extensive factor in future racing. Royce Rools, now enjoying top form, lias been entered extensively in the long-distance stakes to be decided next fall at Latonia, Louisville and Lexington. Royce Rools started at Louisville under the A. K. Macomber silks several years ago in the Kentucky Handicap, but was sadly out of form and was beaten easily. i
