WORTH AMERICAN ELIGIBLES Forty Seasoned Steeplechasers Nominated for One of Saratogas Annual Events. , The North American Steeplechase Handicap, with ?.2,000 added, will be run at Saratoga Saturday, August 13. While not one of the most important of the steeplechases on the Saratoga program, it lias nevertheless attracted the nomination of forty seasoned timber-toppers, from which should come a good field. When inaugurated in 1901 the North American was run as a two and a half mile event. In 1907 the distance was changed to three miles, and in 1909 it was again altered to its present distance of about two miles. An unusual circumstance in connection with the running of this steeplechase is that the same horse won the race three years in succession. This was Wcldship, chestnut gelding, by Seahorse II. Moon Daisy, by Star Ruby, which won in 1915, 191C and 1917. In the latter two years, when seven and eight years old respectively, Seahorse II. carried the heavy impost of 102 pounds, fourteen pounds more than any other horse which has won the event. Here are the eligible, their breeding, and owners: The North American Steeplechase Handicap. ,000 added. For three-year-olds and over. By subscription of 825 each.
