Nolan Being Badly Injured and Horse Monday Morning Disqualified. ♦ — — NEW YORK, N. Y., May 4.— It was a card of overnight purse races that was offered at Jamaica today, but the racing was attractive and the contests were excellent. The weather was pleasant, the track at its best and the crowd a surprisingly large one. The Manhattan Handicap at three-quarters brought out the best field and it resulted in a capital race when N. Losealaos Avisack, which won at Havre de Grace, won from Saddle and Boots with Mawrocoron third. From a good start Dream of the Valley and Mawrcoron rushed into the lead and, closely lapped, set a sizzling pace when they ran the first quarter in 22%. Avisack was heading the others and Dartmoor and Modo brought up in the rear. Dream of the Valley was first to crack from the fast early pace, but before he dropped back Avisack had moved up on the outside and was right with the leaders and racing fast. Saddle and Boots had also improved his position and was moving through the field resolutely. At the head of the stretch Dream of the Valley was all through and dropped back so badly that he eventually pulled up in last place. Mawrcoron was also showing signs of distress from the early fast pace and at the eighth post Avisack had him headed and raced into a safe lead. Then in the last eighth Saddle and Boots also headed Mawrcoron to beat him for second place by a length. When it was all over Modo was coming along with a rush that landed him in fourth place and Nose Dive was fifth. STORY TELLER LUCKY. There was an unfortunate accident during the running of the three-quarters of the second race when John Nicholsons Good Time fell with T. Nolan, just after passing the three-eighths post after having been crowded when Taplin bore over with Monday Morning, which was racing on the outside. At the time of the accident A. K. Macombers Story Teller and the Greentree Stables Romping Home were lengths back of the others and, circling around, they were the ones to finish first and second, while Monday Morning saved third place from the Uancocas Stables Whirlwind. Then the stewards properly and promptly disqualified Monday Morning for the fouling and this moved Whirlwind into third place. The opening dash brought together a cheap band of maiden two-year-old fillies, but it was a thrilling finish when Lady Audrey, from the Keystone Stable, after a slow beginning, came with a rush in the stretch to win by three parts of a length from James Pullers Hard Bargain, a well-named daughter of Pebbles and Haggle, while George 1. Wideners Spontaneous was a close third. J. 11. Tevis Scourgeman was winner of the mile and sixteenth for platers that was the third offering. He just got up with a rush through the stretch to beat the tiring pacemaker, H. Kerzins Manna, and Mrs. 1. J. Lavins Copyright. C. J. Brockmillers Tulsa Continued on twelfth paga. Cosd?ns Babbling, a daughter of Sea King — Linbrook, won the choice in the fifth race, fcr two-year-olds, under claiming conditions, and proved easily best. After Lady Choco retired as pacemaker Babbling rushed into the lead and increased her advantage to win by three lengths. Goldmark was second, outlasting Lady Choco in a spirited struggle through the final eighth. A decided surprise came with the decision of the concluding dash of the afternoon, when the Butler bred and owned Stone Jug. at 15 to I, won going away under a vigorous ride on the part of L. Fator. The winner was outrun early, but once in his stride the son Of Pebbles made up ground fast and, passing the leader in the final quarter, drew clear near the end. -,
