Twenty Years Ago Today Chief Turf Events of May 5, 1903. Racing at Louisville, Jamaica, St. Louis and Worth. The Elmhurst Stakes at Jamaica fell to Race King, his winning margin being four lengths. The celt has improved with each race and today was such an easy winner that it appeared as if he outclassed his opponents. It is true that he was only carrying 98 pounds, but it would have taken quite a bit more weight to bring him back to the horses that raced against him. It was a five-eighths dash for two year-olds and five started. Second place went to Extralaw and Wizard took the third portion of the purse. Next Thursday at Morris Park the spring meeting of the Westchester Racing Association will be inaugurated by th? running of the rich Metropolitan Handicap at a mile. Turfmen always look forward to the Morris Park meeting for the first appearance cf the highest class of thoroughbreds, including the introduction of the crack two-year olds from thi stables of millionaire owners. The Westchester track with its immense stands, broad lawns, wide stretches and picturesque scenery has always been a popular resort, and when the gates are opened for the first time this week, turfmen say, there will be a royal turnout of the faithful.
