POPULAR 1 J PIMLICO SERIES ; Serial Weight-for-Age Races Have Attracted Good List of Nominations This Year. BALTIMORE, Md., Oct. 25. The Serial "Weight-for-Age races, to be run at the coming Pimlico meeting, October 30 to November 12, will commend themselves to sportsmen who believe that horses should be judged strictly on their merits without receiving advantage in the matter of weights. A skillful handicapper can bring the best and worst thoroughbred in a field together, but this is more a tribute to the skill of the official than a test of the relative ability of the racers. The serials are three in number, beginning at three-quarters, with ,000 added; then comes a mile, with ,500 added; culminating with a mile and an eighth, ,000 added. In the first serial there are 162 nominations; in the second, 1G9 nominations, and in the third 130 nominations ; all of them the best handicap horses in training. To the owner of the horse winning any two of the three events the Maryland Jockey Club will give ,000 additional. The winners of the serials in previous years have been of the highest quality, the list going back to 1915, when Stromboli won Serial No. 1. In 1916 and 1917 the flying Leochares was the winner, and Billy Kelly duplicated this feat in 1919 and 1920 ; Careful and Tryster showing the way in 1921 and 1922. . Leochares, Billy Kelly and Careful also won Serial No. 2, while Tryster performed the "hat trick" by winning all three last year, a truly wonderful performance. Among the nominations for the coming renewals of the serials are Fair Phantom, Ladkin, Dot, Goshawk, Dunlin, Sarazen, Big Blaze, Rialto, Blossom Time, Sallys Alley, My Play, Mackenzie II., General Thatcher, Zev, Miss Star, Vigil, My Own, King Solomons Seal, Tryster, Bunting and Happy Thoughts. It is interesting to note that J. K. L. Rosa has again entered Billy Kelly, while Tryster and Mad Hatter, previous winners, have also been placed on the list of eligibles.
