Humphrey, owners of the Colorado Stable, whose Little Chief will also be a starter in Saturdays big event Edward F. Simms, owner of Happy Thoughts, is expected down with a party. While the track was drying out this afternoon and still slow, there is possibility of good going tomorrow, for the local weather man has promised clear weather. The sun was out for a good part of today and the wind helped to dry out the trade Many others than those directly interested in the race are expected from New York and Philadelphia on the train that leaves over the Baltimore and Ohio railroad from the Pennsylvania station in New York at 8 :30 and which stops at the gates of the Laurel course, arriving at 1:24 p. m. While neither of the candidates have shown any marvelous speed in preparation for the race, the work of Happy Thoughts over the three-quarters distance has been faster than that of Sarazen, but by only two-fifths of a second. Sarazen worked the three-quartera over a sloppy track in 1:19 going easily, while Happy Thoughts did it in 1 :18 just as easily. Among todays prominent visitors were C Bascom Slemp, secretary to President Cool-idge ; John Adams, secretary of the Bepub-lican national committee, and Senator Curtis of Kansas. W. Weifcind disposed at private sale to C. L. Richards the three-year-old Pravus. The horse was in Richards possession only twenty-four hours when he was taken sick and died. . E. Trueman, who looks after the horses that run in the colors of the Washington turfman, C. C. Smithson, reports that the filling has gone out of Lunettas leg and that he has hopes of getting this good racer to the post during the Pimlico meeting. Four claims were put in for the mare Valley of Dreams after she was beaten in the seventh race on Wednesday and in the drawing T. E. Cummings, trainer for E. E. Watson, got her for ,800. My Own, Admiral Graysons candidate for the Washington Handicap on Saturday, and which is expected to go to Kentucky and race against Zev in the Latonia Championship, had a narrow escape here this afternoon while he was being galloped between races. Starting from the half-mile post on the backstretch My Own encountered three harrows when he reached the stretch and, while he was pulled to the outside, he was forced to jump over a portion of the outer harrow. This hindered his speed and he finished the three-quarters in 1:22. S. C. Hildreth and Scott P. Harlan were two trainers who wired here this afternoon to have stalls ready for their Washington. Handicap candidates. Hildreth is sending down Little Chief, which he is now training for the Colorado Stable owned by J. B. Humphrey of Denver. Harlan is sending down Exodus, which he will run for the Greentree Stable.
