Won driving; second and third tlia same. LA VAGUE began slowly and raced on the outside to the stretch, then gained steadily and, finishing gamely got up to win in the closing strides. STEVENS raced forwardly all the way, but tired after taking the lead. LEONARD G. ran a good race. MAITLAND closed a -big gap and finished resolutely. PLAID retired after going a quarter in the lead. CAPTAIN COSTIGAN sprinted into a long lead soon after the start and, setting a good pace under restraint, was casing up at the end. THE PERUVIAN raced well and easily held second place safe. WHALEBONE tired after making a challenge at the head of the stretch. CHIEfi BARTHELL had no mishaps. FEODOR raced gamely. T. J. PENDERGAST tired badly. Scratched 73987 Charles J. VALENTIA was outpaced in the early running, but improved her position rapidly on the inside and, coming on the outside of the leader at the eighth post, challenged gamely and got up to win in the closing strides. FINALITY raced SLING into defeat and, taking the lead finished resolutely. SLING set the early pace and tired, but finish well. SERBIAN closed a big gap. EVELYN SAWYER ran well. WILD FLOWER raced into the lead after rounding the far turn and, saving ground on the stretch turn, responded gamely when challenged. FRANK MONROE closed up steadil; in the last half-mile. MARY MAXIM set the pace to the List turn and tired when challenged. ZED began slowly. WHO CARES raced forwardly for five-eighths and quit. GOLDEN RULE, racing well in the going, was rushed into the lead at once, setting a good pace drew away after entering the homestretch and won in a canter. THIMBLE raced AUTUMN HELLS into defeat in the first three-quarters and finished gamely, but could not reach the winner. GADFLY lacked early speed, but came throtgh fast on the inside after entering the homestretch, then itred.
