ā€” 1 ENGLISH JOCKEYS SAD END Veteran Adam Scott Breaks Neck in Fall While Riding His Horse, Command. SPECIAL CABLEGRAM. LONDON, England, April Lā€” Adam Scott, veteran owner and trainer, was killed while riding his own horse. Command, in a steeplechase at Kelso Tuesday. When Command fell three jumps from the finish Scott was | thrown heavily, landing on his head. When picked up he was dead and an examination | showed that his neck had been broken. The , : ill-fated turfmans wife witnessed the : tragedy from the stands. She was prcs- ! j trated. Scott was successful and popular in his : chosen profession. At the Perth meeting i four years ago he won eight out of twelve j races. Among the horses which he owned | may be mentioned Jazz, which won the j Northumberland Plate last year; Nanticoch. which won the Prince Edward Handicap at ! Manchester, and the steeplechaser Turkey j Buzzard. Scotts methods of training Nanticoch for : his winning performance in the Prince Ed- ; ward Handicap occasioned much comment. ! He trained the horse over the fields of his i own estate at Whittingham, Northumber- : | land. Scott was about 50 years old. His last I ! winning ride was at Catterick Bridge, March 11, when he took the National Hunt flat race on Diver Patrol. The famous jockey Arthur Bierch broke his , back while riding Scotts horse Black Ivory,! : at Gatwick, nineteen years ago.
