April 1. — In the provincial legislature on Monday the first reading was given to a bill to amend the corporation act to make a uniform rate of ,500 per day payable by all race tracks in Ontario, whether they are half-mile or mile courses. At the present time half-mile tracks pay a fee of ,500 for each racing day and the mile tracks ,500. It is estimated that the additional revenue to the province as a result of this legislation will amount to 75.-000 per* year. There is provision made whereby a rebate of ,500 a day may be made when the mutuel betting at a track does not reach ,100,000 for the seven days meetings. In addition to the daily license fee. racing organizations will continue to pay the provin- cial government twenty-five cents amusement i tax for everyone entering the gate, plus a percentage of the mutuel pool. Last years racing at Dufferin Park and I. ong Branch, half-mile courses, where over ,000,000 was handled in the machines at each, is cited as I the reason why the tax should be equalized.
