back to that good race in the opening dash C Lans again had the mount and the filly scored another head victory when she beat Theresa Joan There is no question as to her game ness In both of her winning races here she has stood a long hard stretch drive In her race this afternoon she had to overcome a lot of early interference At the turn oul of the back stretch she was sharply cut ofl and Lang was pulling her up for a few strides When she got clear Heartache came again and moving up stoutly at the top of the home stretch she caught Theresa Joan The pair staged a great stretch duel ant Heartache proved the gamer of the two Sir Barley was third beaten two lengths for second place Dr Raymond furnished the winner of the Connaught Cup Handicap in Goldbeater which outlasted Malapert by a half length in a driving finish There were four with Malapert and Tamarind coupled as the Sea ¬ gram entry Tamarind was rushed to the front when the start came and in the carly stages raced the big striding Glenistcr II off his feet The pacemaker drew away into a long lead on the back stretch and was racing well in hand Rounding the far turn Maiben sent Goldbeater up and when lio made his move Bourassa also called on Malapert The pair closed on the leader with a rush and at the top of the stretch Goldbeater was taken to the outside while Malapert skinned the rail At the six ¬ teenth post the pair was on almost even terms but right at the finish Goldbeater drew away again Maiben was unable to do himself justice when it came to a finish on account of the saddle slipping on the win ¬ ner Xorseland had better luck in her race this afternoon than she did the other day Mun den got her off well but she dropped out of it at the first quarter In the run down the back stretch and rounding the far turn she slipped through next the inside rail and en ¬ tering the home stretch came to the outside of the leaders and closing stoutly wore Tri ¬ umph down to win going away by a length Tiber the end endM M linden rode a good race on Off Spring He was content to race in behind Subtle in the early stages and never made a move until rounding the far turn when he went to the front with a rush His mount tired under him in the last quarter and Munden was forced to put on one of the best finishes he has shown at the meeting to get Off Spring to last long enough Grass Maid was second beaten a scant half length She came through on the inside in the stretch run and in the end was vearing the winner down Subtle was made too much use of by Clavcr who rushed her to the front in the run to the first turn At the eighth post Subtle made an ¬ other bid but when the final test came she again tired tiredGolden Golden Billows showed a good performance in the seventh race When the start came she was off poorly being partly left at the post Hunt used good judgment in not mak ¬ ing too much use of her in the early stages On the back stretch he began moving up and after passing the half mile post was right behind the pacemaker Straightened out in the home stretch Golden Billows charged with a rush and at the end won going away by a length
