RAIN VISITS AURORA Cartoon Surprises in Winning the Chief Offering of Card George De Mar Meets Defeat Max Brick Scores in Sensa tional Finish AUBOBA 111 May 2G Bain threatened during the early part of the afternoon and a light shower fell previous to the running of the first race but it failed to injure the track to any great extent The weather suddenly turned cool making top coats a necessity for comfort hut the attendance was up to the high standard which has prevailed since the opening As the field was at the post for the fourth race a heavy rain came driving the crowd to shelter and slowing up the going a trifle trifleCartoon Cartoon racing in the colors of the Dear ¬ born Stable provided somewhat of a surprise when he scored a decisive victory in the Jolict Handicap which served as the feature j attraction of todays program Cross How raced to second place while Cogwheel barely lasted to save the short end of the purse from George De Mar MarCogwheel Cogwheel The Spa and Cross Bow was the order until the field was straightened out on Uie back stretch Duckweed was following and George De Mar as usual far back The Spa was then sent to the front and showed the way until reaching the final eighth with Cross How close up Cartoon which had gradu ¬ ally improved his position after entering the si retch then challenged and swept by the leaders with a burst of speed that carried him to an easy victory victoryCOUIl COUIl NOT CONCEDE WEIGHT WEIGHTCross Cross Bow easily retained second place but Cogwheel was hard pressed to save third from the fast finishing George De Mar The Jacobus color bearer despite his heavy im ¬ post made a game bid during the run home He could not concede the weight but finished courageously and would have been third in a few more strides The Spa quit to a walk during the last sixteenth sixteenthThe The Mercury fourth and secondary fea ¬ ture was run in a driving rain which made it impossible to accurately distinguish the colors but it was productive of a rousing finish Max Brick found an opening next the inner rail in the last sixteenth and earned the verdict for Moshier and Walters by a scant half length MacLean and Jack Alexander followed heads apart with Humb ¬ ling a bang up fourth Any one of the first five horses including Deep Thought appeared to havo an equal chance of winning a hun ¬ dred yards from the finish finishLumber Lumber Jack opened up a comfortable lead when straightened out in the stretch in the opening dash with Lady Abbott Bazon and Mclntosh in closest attendance When the final struggle came Lady Abbott had the most in reserve and drew away near the end to a handy victory Bazon in turn outlasted Lumber Jack for second place Mclntosh quit to a walk in the last sixteenth sixteenthKEEV KEEV STIIETCH STRUGGLE STRUGGLEA A keen stretch struggle came with the run ¬ ning of the second in which Am I Early and Tosie Hartman raced closely lapped The former proved the gamer in the final drive Biddy Shipp saved much ground during the Btretch run where the leaders raced wide and was a bangup third thirdClyde Clyde Freemans Jedburgh Abbey made a runaway of the third race He opened up a long early lead and won in hand during the last few yards Despite the fact that his recent trials were excellent he returned a liberal dividend Norcross which raced in closest pursuit practically throughout was a handy second Brown Betty was putting forth her best to save third from Floy Lillie He ruled favorite but could never get to the leaders leadersAfter After following the pace of Glory to the stretch Frank Jailor under keen urging vontually captured the sixth race from Gus B The latter began slowly but raced up into a contending position on the back stretch and made a resolute bid during the run home but was not quite good enough Padlock held the others safe all through the final eighth as Glory quit badly during the last quarter quarterBoots Boots Durncll registered his first suc ¬ cess of the meeting when Prodigal accounted for the concluding dash Prodigal raced into the front on the back stretch drew away Into a long lead while rounding the top turn but was doing his best to stall off Proceeds Crosswise a keen factor through ¬ out was a bangup third after showing a creditable performance performanceA A 1cllcteri reports that the twoyearold Christmas Money is dangerously ill and little hope is held out for Ills rcav jry
