AT POST 3 minutes. Start good and slow. Won easily; second and third driving. ARAGON, close up from the start and well ridden, took the lead in the stretch and won easing up. WASHINGTON saved ground on the stretch turn and outgamed TORRENCE in the final drive. TORRENCE raced well and finished gamely. LEGATION had no mishaps. AFTON ran fairly well. Won easily; second and third driving. GREY LAG raced close up under restraint back of SHUFFLE ALONG to the stretch, then took the lead easily in the stretch and was under restraint all through the final eighth, never having been fully extended. LORD BROOM raced gamely at the end to outfinish ROYAL PLAY. The latter was saved through the early racing and closed up resolutely when called ou, but tired right at the end. SHUFFLE ALONG was much used in setting a fast pace and was tiring badly through the last eighth. WHISKEY RUN raced close up all the way and outgamed HOUSE BOY in the stretch drive. The latter saved ground on the stretch turn, but tired badly in the final drive. ICE, off badly, closed a big gap and finished gamely. ST. JOHN, away slowly and forced to race wide on the first turn, saved ground on the stretch turn and closed a big gap. FRED PARKER set a fast early pace, but was tiring at the end. JACK HIGGINS finished resolutely after having raced forwardly from the start. RIDGWAY began slowly and was not persevered with. JOE MARRONE III., in close quarters early and forced to race wide on the first turn, tired badly in the final drive.
