BLUE BONNETS INAUGURAL Kindergarten Stakes and Blue Bonnets Handicap Features. Maurice Scores In Juvenile Attraction, While Jtolls Jloyoc Takes Handicap Good "Weather for Opening Day. MONTREAL, Que, June 17. The Montreal Jockey Clubs seven-day meeting at Blue Bonnets was ushered in this afternoon under favorable conditions. Patrons of the club found a rejuvenated race course and Blue Bonnets is now one of the finest racing grounds in Canada, The many improvements were favorably commented upon and from now on tilings should go with a boom here. A splendid program was provided for the opening and interesting contests were in order. Two features were provided, the Kindergarten Stakes, ,000 added, for two-year-olds, at five-eighths, and the Blue Bonnets Handicap, a dash of three-quarters, for three-year-olds and over. There were six starters in the Kindergarten Stakes, with Black Friar and Congress coupled as the W. J. Salmon entry. Jockey J. Maiben made the trip up from Belmont Park to ride Black Friar, but the best the latter could dp was to finish second to J. W. Beans Maurice. The latter ran a good race. J. Hastic had the mount and, when the start came, he was off very slowly. On the far turn Maurice moved up on the Inside entering the home stretch and kept close to the rail. At the eighth post he took the lead and retained it for the remainder of the journey, winning by a length from Black Friar. The latter had no excuses, except that he probably fancies firmer footing and a faster track. Maiben got him off in front and was free of interference for the entire distance. At the end Black Friar was tiring and had to stand a hard drive to outstay the fast-finishing Solace, which came from behind in the stretch, to finish fastest of all. Solace, which was purchased by the Seagram Stable a few days back, was making his first start for his new owners in this race. He. is a good looking youngster, not tall, but stoutly built, and will undoubtedly improve on todays effort The Blue Bonnets Handicap fell to Rolls Royce, ridden by O. Bourassa. Coming from behind in the stretch, Rolls Royce overhauled the tiring Sunsard to win going away by-half a length. It was an exciting finish between the first three, Powhatan being beaten by a neck for second place. Sunsard was quickest to begin and set a fast pace. Hastie stayed close to the rail, and Sunsard led until the final eighth, where Rolls Royce caught and passed him and, once in front, the Seagram racer held the others safe. Rolls Royces victory marked the third score by the Seagram Stable during the afternoon. Erickson rode three winners, Phanariot Voshell and Benny Rubin. Benny Rubin began the day auspiciously for students of form, when he won the opening race, a dash over the five and a half furlongs route, in a drive to beat Senor by a length and a haf for the major portion of the purse. Quadrille finifhed fourth, leading the remainder of the field to the finish by a comfortable margin. The second race of the afternoon, for Canadian breds, to test their ability over the mile journey, brought out a field of six to strive for honors and the result of the contest was a popular one, when the talent installed the Seagram colorbearer, Phanariot, a prohibitive choice and the big unsexed son of Ypsilanti II. made good in easy fashion, to score by a four-length advantage over Shepherd of the Hills, which was nearest to the winner as the finishing mark was reached. Third money fell to Brevet
