GREAT MARE VICTRESS Princess Doreen Adds to Her Glorious Turf Record. Defeats Reputation and Lounger After Hard Battle in Granite City Elks Handicap. CQLLINSVILLE, 111.; June 17. The Aud-ley Farm Stables magnificent and gallant Princess Doreen further added to her glorious victories in the Granite City Elks Handicap, stellar attraction offered by the Fairmount Jockey Club at this course this afternoon. The famous mare performed in fine style, for it required one of her very best efforts to down the opponents she met, incidentally Harned Brothers Reputation, and also S. Louis Lounger, extending themselves especially on the occasion of their being pitted against such worthy and formidable company, and gave their very best in an effort to conquer the Audley Farms valued color-bearer. The finish was extremely close and exciting, with Princess Doreen vanquishing Reputation in the last stride by a head while Lounger, only another head away, came with a terrific rush at the end and barely missed heading Reputation for second place in the same final stride which terminated the long, hard drive that ensued throughout the last three-sixteenths of the three-quarters race. AUDLEY FARM STABLE. An allowance race for maiden two-year-olds at five-eighths brought out eight good ones and furnished a fine contest. The Audley Farm Stable supplied the winner when the filly Joyous, a daughter of Sir Barton Miss Joy, showed the most speed throughout and landed safely In advanse of H. T. Archibalds fast finishing Sweepanola, which took second place, outfinishing A. Kaisers Bonivan. R. Wingfields four-year-old gelding Blue Granite and jockey H. Flston proved the winning combination in the inaugural race and defeated the Winloe Stables Nani-Ha-waii, one of the field horses, which finished in second place, and H. Bedwells improved Sarko, which wound up in third place. Murky, one of the forward factors in the race, was fourth. Sarko set the early pace and held the lead well to nearing the last eighth, but was then outfinished by the winner and Nani-Hawaii. Lathrop was the favored one, but he offended badly. Never at any stage of the race did he prove a formidable opponent for the leaders. UPSET CALCULATIONS. Harned Bros. Agnes Call upset calculations slightly when, racing in her best form, she sprinted over the three-quarters of the third event in the good time of 1:12, taking the measure of Patsy Jane, Greyface and six others. The Badger was the most favored one, he receiving an abundance of heavy backing, but the favorite seemed placed a trifle over his head here and he was unable to maintain the fast pace set by the leaders in the early stages, then tired badly in the stretch racing and finished well beaten. Patsy Jane had plenty of early speed, reeling off the first half-mile of the distance in :46 and holding the lead well to nearing the last eighth-mile. Agnes Call was racing in close pursuit of the leader all the way and, coming with a terrific rush in the last eighth, overhauled Patsy Jane and won going away. Mrs. J. Phillips Beau Galant provided another upset in the fourth race, taking the measure of a good band at a mile and a sixteenth. W M. Cains Cup o Tea set the pace in this race to near the last eighth before tiring, and was then outfinished by the winner, but held on well for second place. The Missouri Stables Rebeck raced up into third place in the last seventy yards. Chick Up was the offending favorite, racing far out of it throughout directly after the conclusion of the fourth race, much added excitement was provided the fans, the large crowd milling around and giving vent to enthusiastic acclamations, when Colonel Charles Lindbergh, the American hero of the hour, flew around in the vicinity of the course in his big plane, accompanied by a large fleet of airplanes from nearby St. Louis.
