MINUS FEATURE RACE ♦ Routine Sport Order of Day at Fox River Valley Course, ♦ Senator Seth Defeats Bunthorne and Roycrofter in Best Race — Macbeth Victorious in Second. ♦ AURORA. III.. May 10.— Routine racing, devoid of any outstanding feature, was the rule at Exposition P.uk this afternoon and inclement weather kept the attendance considerably below the standard of the preceding days of the present meeting. Showers and colder weather came at noon, which probably had considerable to do with the falling off in the patronage. A series of short races was offered to i open the program and continued up to the fifth race, which was the best on the card, bringing to the post a band of eight of the best second grade sprinters at the track. In this race the Jones Stock Farm Stables three-year-old Senator Seth, an overwhelming favorite at post time, succeeded in winning his second straight victory at the course and impressively defeated Mrs. R. Pollards Bunthorne and Roycrofter, which was third, and the five other starters. In the three-quarters dash Senator Seth led all the way and drew away from his opponents into a three-length advantage in the stretch. Insid- the last eighth he appeared to be tiring, but De Prema. who rode him, was not alarmed by the fast-finishing Bunthorne and was content with hand riding Senator Seth to the finish, not punishing him at all, and the Seth gelding held Bunthorne safe to the finish, scoring by a neck margin. Bunthorne landed six lengths in advance of Roycrofter. HT MEROTS UPSETS. Track conditions furnished several upsets during the afternoon and. while the footing was damp, the racing strip was not in a muddy or heavy condition. The showers which fe!l at intervals did no serious damage to the track other than bringing it to a slow condition. John "William II.. showing a sudden return to his best form, easily annexed the opener. a dash of five and a half furlongs, in which he met ten other sprinters and from which he was an easy winner, landing four lcnth-in advance of Antiquity at the end. John William II. was one of the field horses, as was Antiquity, and they accounted for first and second money. Puffs Time raced well and was up at the end of the stretch drive to take third place. Irene Rohan, which did the early leading, gave way badly in the stretch and failed to withstand the general closing up of the others from near the end. Puffs Time and Little Cook carried the bulk of the wagering in this race. Macbeth, strongly supported favorite for the second race, responded with an easy victory from a lowly band of sprinters, taking their measure decisively at the conclusion ot another five and a half furlong dash. Joe Junior gave the winner the most opposition by racing right with him for the first four and a half furlongs, making several bids to overtake him but. finding himself unable to , do so, had to be content with saving second place. Colonel Campus, a slow beginner, found his racing legs in the stretch and. by a big saving of ground on the inside, managed jo g-?t up at.the end to narrowly defeat Miss Omaha for third place. BOBS BEST WINS. W. J. Waterman supplied the winner of the . third race when Bobs Best, ridden by jockey J. Ford, landed home in advance of Jessie Belle, Riot and seven other fair sprinters. ■ Jessie Belle set the pace in a determined - manner to fie last eighth, enjoying a clear lad to that point. Jessie Belle then began 1 to tire and Bobs Best, until then in closest pursuit of the leader, moved past her easily into the lead and held sway to the end. Jessie Belle held on and saved second place, while Riot came front the rear with a rush and got up in the last stride to nose out Cay Hallie. Dark Angel was well repranled in the race and made a good showing for the first mile, then appeared to tire as if short, and will probably do better in future races here. Maiden two-year-olds furnished the contest In the fourth race, at four and a half furlongs. Fuss, from the C. A. Bernhardt fctable, graduated into the winning class with , a victory scored at the direct expense of L. M. Seveisons Otilla, the latter second, while B. Creechs Leading Lady finished close in the wake of the leading pair to take third money. The race was marked by much early I contention, Mildred Wood holding the lead to Coutiuued on twenty-first page ! e e e f t n d n e b t k n - », I. y ir. n MINUS FEATURE RACE I I Continued from first page. the stretch, only to lose it there to Leading Lady. The Creech filly enjoyed a brief sojourn in the van, when suddenly Fuss raced ■ up on even term with her and in s brief f drive passed her, but just managed to k ep going long enough to save the d cision from the fast-finishing Otiila by a head, B. Creechs colors were sported in a sur-f prise victory in the sixth race, Blucfish turn-e ing up the winner of this contest over a ; small fit Id, which started over the one mile and seventy yards affair. Tsrcher raced well l under Pender grass and looked the winner as ; they were turning for home when Bluefish , came up on the inside of the leaders and, finding racing room, moved up and chal-r, . lenged Torcher, gradually taking the lead 1 from hint, and then proceeded to draw away with ease to win by three lengths as they computed the final eighth. Joy Rail garnered the third end of the purse. Topsy S. accounted for the final mile race. Ridden by Pendergrasa, she 1 d hone Isa-y bella by a short margin, while some lengths away from the first two Adieu landed third The remainder of the Starters wore strung out in far apart fashion at the end. The winner and Isabella were the only ones to show anything akin to good racing condition, - although Adieus effort was fair.
