I I ■ f I CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES ! $ dj LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 10. T. T. Pendleton, who recently obtained an interest in the Longridge Stable, accompanied by W. V. Thraves, arrived from Texas to make an indefinite stay. Ben Rosenheim, who owns several horses trained by Jake Lowenstein, was among the arrivals from Chicago to remain until after the running of the Kentucky Derby. The Wild Rose Farm stable of Valentine Crane reached Churchill Downs late Wednesday. The stable took in the early Maryland season. Owner Crane accompanied the stable, as did apprentice B. Hodgson and jockey Jimmy Butwell. The establishment embraces George De Mar. Crossco, Her Ladyship, The Hovel, Light Sweep, Charmarlen and two two-year-olds. H. Neustcter is soliciting horsemen, jockeys and followers here in the interests of the family of the late "Whitey" Hope, who died at Columbus a week ago. The fund is grow-ir.T and Neusteter is anxious to make it one of the largest ever collected for such a good cause. There will be a meeting of the Thoroughbred Horse Association at the Seelbach Hotel here Fiiday evening at 7:30 oclock. William E. Caskey, Jr., a member of the board of j directors, speaking for the association, has issued a call for the presence of all members. Jockey Earl Pool has contracted for second call on his services for the meeing to R. L. Baker. Pool has several offers to ride in the Kentncky Derby and has not made decision yet on what mount to accept. I William Dondas, racing secretary of the American National Jockey Club, which operates Arlington Park, is an arrival for the purpose of doing missionary work for the big Chicago track. Jockey Churchman was suspended for ten days yesterday. The program books, embracing conditions for the races for the first eight days of the Arlington Park meeting and all stake nominations, was distributed here today. The first book of the Fairmount Park meeting, opening May 2C and continuing until July 27, inclusive, was offered for horsemen here this morning. The book, the work of racing secretary J. B. Campbell, was in eager demand. It includes among its valuable features nominations for the six stakes to be renewed during the meeting. The condition of Col. W. E. Appegate. who suffered an attack of appendicitis last Monday, was further improved today. Mrs. J. Diebold, part owner of Queen of Sheba. entered a claim for Fire Under in the third race Tuesday, but it was declared invalid by the stewards because of incorrect registration. E. R. Bradley wired from New York to Col. Matt J. Winn requesting Derby reservations for ten guests he intends to bring and also for ten reservations for guests Mrs. Kauffman will bring ar.d a like number for Mrs. Donovan. They will arrive from the East next Friday. Mayor James Walker of New York is expected to reach here with his party n-xt Friday to be on hand for the Derby. He is bringing a number of guests.
