LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 10.— Reigh Count, the Kentucky Derby favorite, owned by Mrs. John D. Hertz of Chicago, and his capable filly stablemate Anita Peabody, were prepared for more exacting assignments when they went three-eighths over the Downs track this morning. The light work was fashioned as final preparation for a gallop over a longer distance by Reigh Count tomorrow, and as the last training of the filly for a race at three-quarters the same day. Neither three-year-old was required to exhibit anything like top speed. E igh Count was timed in :37. and Anita Peabody bettered that mark by one-fifth of a second. Reigh Count and Anita Peabody were- sent to the track together, but the former had his gallop a short time before the filly. They left the track together, and trainer B. S. Michell was satisfied with their lieliness and smooth manner in which they galloped. Michell is said to have indicated that Reigh Count may not be seen in competition until he is confronted with the task of vindicating the judgment of his numerous admirers, who succeeded in backing Mm into and maintaining him as the Derby choice. Just how far the son of Sunrcigh — ontessina will be galloped tomorrow was not disclosed by Michell this morning. Anita Peabody will make her seasons debut in the Lebanon Parse, at three-quarters, and in which she will oppose Marhi, Black Patti, Perle dOr and -Miss Leo, all fillies of the Futurity winners age. The Hertz star is regarded as much the best in the small field. eartago, one of R. E. Leichleitera Derby eligibles, was sent a mile in 1:42%, driving, over the Downs track this morning. Milam, ovvr.er of Lucky Hit, which met defeat by a short margin at the hands of Colonel Shaw Wednesday, this morning expressed the opinion that his son of John P. Grier — Gold Mine is capable of better per-| formance than that effort, and that he ex-i pec.s him to turn the tables on Colonel Shaw the next time they meet. Mr. Milam has enten d Lucky Hit for the one mile Elizabeth-town Purse Friday. He will cnga.ue a number of capable three-year-olels and older horses in that raee.
