TOUGH RACE TO LOSE. The defeat of Clyde Van Dusen by Lord Braedalbane in the Eastwood Purse, which brought out a limit field embracing some of the moat highly regarded two-year-olds in these paits. stood out as the outstanding upset of the afternoon. Clyde Van Dusen, on the strength of his string of three straight winning races at Lexington, was backed to the exclusion of the others and, while he hid excuse in suffering his defeat by a nose after encountering some interference, Lord Braedalbane raced well to gain the honors. The winner moved to the foremost ones of the field with a rush an 1 great loss of ground in the opening quarter and was required to hold to his task with splendid courage to hold the shortest possible margin over the favorite, which he headed an eighth from the finish of the four and a half furlongs. Clyde Van Dusen was sent after the more rapid beginning Lansquenet without delay and. while the lattjer.was conceding ground to the former, he swerved across the path of the favorite and blocked him sharply. The interference cost Clyde Van Dusen some ground and. while he recovered his full stride quickly. Lord Braedalbane was past him when Chiavetta found racing room for him inside the stretch turn. The two juveniles fought it out head and head thereafter, while The Okah was holding on gamely to beat My Hobby by a neck for third place. MULDOONS SUCCESS POPULAR. There was a popular-victory for Muldoon with the running of the opening race. The winner, ridden by H. Richards, won easily from Margate, with Nabisco third, and was required to race from behind. Margate was always well up. while Nabisco gradually bettered his position from a slow beginning and beat Clarifier by a head for third place. Charming Lady graduated from the maiden ranks when she easily led a band of eleven two-year-olds for almost the entire four and one-half furlongs, in the second race. She was ridden by Jack Berry and attracted heavy support. After racing into a good lead in the first eighth, the winner held to her task well and was always out of danger of Mary Gay, which was in closest pursuit.
