Long Points Triumph in Second Popular *_ ,; With Spectators — Kangaroo Wins Steeplechase Race. to PIMLICO, Md.. May 10.— Walter J. Salmon furnished the winner of todays feature race at Pimlino when his Dunboyne colt Dunkirk j* defeated the Nevada Stock Farms Chic- *j leight by a neck. Back of these two, by a "J head, was J. E. Griffiths Single Step. Dinah ■ Did Upset, which races for the Maryland f sportsman, S. W. Labrot, was fourth, half lr in a length further back with Stupendous following directly in back and close to the ■ latter. These five furnished a close finish t to that brought the vast throng in the grandstand to its feet, rooting and roaring. There were ten starters, with Single Step n and Fair Beth coupled as the Griffith entry. Stupendous was favorite. The riders did a *» lot of jockeying at the rost and it was only c after a four-minute delay that starter Mil- D ton caught them in a compact bunch to send * them away almost aligned. There wr s plenty C of contention at all stages. Jenner, on Chicleight. a rapid beginner, rushed the Nevada- a owned youngster to the front and he led Lady Fair by a head at the turn out of the a a back stretch. Dinah Did Upset and Stu- a pendous were right tip with the leaders, the c four racing necks and heads apart. Single Step and Dunkirk followed, the latter be- ■ hind the leaders, with Schaefer waiting for " an opening on the inside. Schaefer found his chance at the head of the stretch, where " Chicleight bore out a bit, carrying the others * with him. Quick to make the best of this opportunity, Schaefer brought Dunkirk up ■ next to the rail and at the eighth post joined Chicleight. The first four were strung across the track with all under punishment. ■ DESPERATE CLOSING DRIVE. Fifty yards from the finish line Single Step joined the others. He was going fast and overhauling the leaders with every stride, j It was a desperate drive and Dunkirk got his neck in front and kept it there. Chicleight just lasted long enough to beat Single Step. Stupendous was tiring and Coin Collector, badly outrun in the early stages, was coming fast. The latters race was an impressive one. Single Step, a full brother to Single Foot, was making his maiden effort. He is a v good looking colt. In his trials at Pimlico he has been showing plenty of speed and in his race this afternoon he demonstrated that , he is game. Another large gathering turned out this afternoon. The crowds this spring have es- • tablished a record in point of numbers for t Pimlico and the meeting has probably been the most successful in the history of the . club. The third race, a dash of a mile and a sixteenth, under claiming conditions, brought i a well matched field to the post, and J. A. Sims furnished the winner in Rosina, which , won by two lengths from S. Hesseltines , A*omin. Mrs. W. J. Martins Know-Ale- . Gnome was third, and Parchesie fourth. Fable started with a great burst of speed and in the early stages threatened to spreadeagle , the others. Entering the back stretch she had a three-lengths lead, but in the run to the half-mile i post began to tire and at the turn out of the back stretch Atomin moved up on the outside and passed her. Another change in positions came as the field straightened i itself out for the final drive. J. C. Alergler brought Rosina up at this stage and, catching Atomin, passed him without effort ] to win going away at the finish. Fable quit to a walk and finished last. Harry Carroll [ and Firedog both made bold challenges a quarter out, but quit when the real pinch i came. RAL PARR COLORS TO FORE. The famous black and white stripes of Ral Parr were carried to victory in the running : of the Glenmore Steeplechase this afternoon 1 when Kangaroo won in runaway fashion. • Kangaroo, ridden by C. Alergler, set- all his own pace and at the finish had a lead of a 1 length over Alantonian. Six lengths back fol- " lowed High Court, which in turn beat Henry Dattner by a neck. All of the eight starters finished the course. • Kangaroo was a favorite and when the start came Alergler took him to the front and re-I mained there. The first turn of the field he ! held Kangaroo under restraint and, when Preece challenged with Henry Dattner, Kan- garoo had something in reserve. After dis-1 posing of the latter the pacemaker stalled j off challenges from Greek Friar and then 1 from Mantonian. The winner jumped in faultless fashion and Alergler saved ground with him all of the way. Alantonian went to the leaders full of run going to the twelfth jump, but made a bad landing and lost , ground. High Court, which finished third, [j showed a good performance. He raced well . in hand until the last time around and gained ground when Burgess called on him. E. E. Rhodes Long Point was an easy y winner of the second race when he beat R. A. Johnsons Highland Chief by two lengths and 9 a half. Joyous was third, beaten by a neck for second place. Barnes sent Whizzing Cloud to the front soon after the start and ? had a slight margin In the run down the back ? stretch. On the far turn Long Point moved ■ ! up and took the lead, only to lose it when n he went wide entering the hime stretch. In the final eighth Long Point came again n and the finish found him drawing away from the others. Whizzing Cloud tired badly after ,r going half a mile. Long Toim was a well II played favorite. Walter AI. Jeffords Alan o War gelding o- Point Breeze, who beat a band of maidens a a few days back, came back with another win- ,. ning effort this afternoon when he won the ie fifth race, a dash of a mile and seventy y yards. The conditions called for maidens and j winners of one race, and Point Breeze was IS favorite. Leaving the post very slowly Point it_ Breeze was far back in the early stages, and u it was not until they had gone half a mile ie that he began to loom up as a contender. Stevens took him to the extreme outside and, J after making a wide turn entering the home ie stretch. Point Breeze came with good cour- r- age to wear Sun Roman down to win going ig away by half a length. Sun Roman managed d to last long enough to save second place, e, when he beat Blabber by a neck. Sun Roman in and Prompter alternated in setting the pace. e. The latter quit in the stretch when it came ie to a drive and was beaten four lengths.
