NEW COMMISSION MEETS Recently Appointed Members of Kentucky Board Hold Session — Laffoon Chairman. LOCISVILLE, Ky., May 12.— The recently appointed State Pacing Commission held its initial meeting at the Churchill Downs club house this morning. The board, with full membership present, reseated Polk Laffoon of Covington as chairman and selected William E. Smith of Louisville vice-chairman. Charles X. Lewis of Louisville was named as secretary and Miss Louise M. Wilson of Lexington, assistant secretary. Other members of the commission are : S. S. Combs of Lexington, Frazier Lebus of Lexington and Theodore E. Mueller of Louisville. Mr. Lewis, for many years secretary to James B. Brown, Louisville capitalist, has given generously of his time and interest to racing and is well known to racing folk throughout the state. Miss Wilson, secretary and treasurer of the Kentucky Association, Inc., is the only woman race track official in this country and formerly held an executive office at Latonia. It was understood that the offices of the commission, now located in the Fayette Bank Building, Lexington, will be moved to the Kentucky Association track in that city. Other routine matters were reviewed by the board before adjournment. The licensing of jockey E. Scobie, which was granted at the previous meeting of the commission, was taken up by the commission. Protests against Seobies conduct were made by his employers, it was said. «
