OVER 500 HORSES ON HAND Plenty of Good Racing Material Available for Meeting at Fairmount Park. ST. LOUIS. Mo., May 23. — Preparations for the Impending thirty-seven day meeting of Fairmount Park, under full swing today, indicate the best meeting in the brief history of the track. More than 500 horses have been registered up until today, with four racing officials busy receiving stable lists and badge applications from recently arrived establishments. Weights for the Collinsville Handicap, feature of th- opening days program, Saturday, were issued yesterday by Brownell Berryman and R. S. Shelley, who. with racing secretary J. B. Campbell, compose the board of handienppers. This handicap, with an added value of ,000, to be run over the three-quarters distance, closed with seventy-six nominations. Happy Argo. an eastern sprinter, was given top weight of 12S pounds, thirteen more than Edisto. next on the list. A large field is expected to start and probably will be selected from Bulletin, Shasta Bullet, Brilliant, Broadside. McTinkle, Step Along. Scotland. Charlie Bergin. Patsy Jane. Mazetta, Shasta Lad. Sistership, Alexander Pantages. * The Show Off. Nedda. I. Davis and Meri-wick. These horses are now on the grounds, but several candidates may be shipped here from Churchill Downs. Fairmount Park has been kept in splendid condition all winter by superintendent J. H. Edwards and a number of stables wintered here. These horses appear just as fit as other campaigners from the East, Kentucky, New Orleans r .d Tijuana. Among the bands that wintered here or have been here since the close of winter racing are those of E. McCaun, A. J. Tershall. W. Phillips. W. J. Whalen, G. Coggins, M. L. Cooper, Phil Reuter. B. B. Rice, E. E. Watson and Tom Craven. The latest stables to arrive were those in charge of T. Lynn with twenty and J. J. McTague with two. The East Lynn horses, property of E. R. Bryson, included the Fair-mount Derby condidates, Leyland and Jacksonville. Some of the larger stables already quartered here are those of H. G. Bedwell with twenty ; W. M. Cain, sixteen ; S. M. Henderson, twenty-five : C. Irby, twelve ; C. W. Moore, twelve ; Phil Reuter, fourteen ; John Whitlow, fifteen ; E. E. Watson, fifteen, and E. McCaun. sixteen. Starter William Snyder and his crew have been on duty here since May 1, and have schooled a majority of the horses at the track, including a large number of two-year-olds. Steward Joseph A. Murphy arrived from Chicago today and his first duties were to receive a number of applications for trainers and jockeys licenses, not made in time for the Illinois Turf Association meeting a month ago. Temporary licenses will be granted by Judge Murphy pending the next meeting of th? association and this supplementary list probably will be made known Friday. With the arrival of racing secretary J. B. Campbell Monday from Woodbine, and George Gray, paddock judge, next Friday, the official family ..ill be complete. Judges Berryman and Shelley came here from Churchill Downs last Sunday.
