FOREIGN TURF NOTES ~t « — — • LONDON. England. Out of the twenty-nine Tracery mares eligible to have representatives on the race course, seventeen have bred winners, and of these the best known perhaps are Blue Boy, Endowment, Birthright, Grandace and the game filly Scuttle, which recently won the One Thousand tluineas. Breeders have little chance of buying this staying blood at public auction, and they might do worse than turn their attention to the stock of Tracerys stout son, the expatriated Flamboyant, half-brother to the Derby winner. Papyrus, and sire of Flamingo. The total attendance during the three days of the Chester meeting was 10S.075, compared with 100,424 last year, while the receipts were 30,030 against 31,130. The E;;rl of Coventry, the oldist member of the House of Lords, was 90 years old May 16 and is in vigorous health. He is known as one of the spotting peers. He is proud of having viewed sixty-seven Derbys and is one of the oldest members of the Jockey Club. Captain YVhitaker, the St. Giles trainer, stated at Sandown that he has purchased from P. AYntheimer the French colt Shah III., on behalf of Capt. A. Eoewenstein, the Belgian millionaire. The colt started favorite for the Great Metropolitan Slakes on April 20, finishing third. He will join Captain Whitakers team forthwith. Captain Loewenstein has recently made several purchases of bloodstock, the most notable being Easter Hero, Rosoglio and The Coyote, all steeplechasers, Easter Hero and The Coyote being considered good enough to start in the Grand National.
