NEW AUSTRALIAN RULES Changes Made Affecting Dead Heats — No Run Over Decided Upon. Important changes have been made In Australian racing rules affecting dead heats. It was decided at the conference of racing delegates held at the Australian Jockey Club office that the Australian rule of racing 111 be cancelled, and the following rule substituted, viz : — 111. If a dead-heat be run by two or more horses in any race, it shall not be run off, but the owners or nominators shall divide. Rules Nos. 112, 113, 114, and 115 were amended to read as follow : 112. Owners or nominators of horses running a dead-heat shall divide equally all the moneys or other prizes which any of them could take if the dead-heat were run off. 113. If the owners or nominators cannot agree as to which of them is to have a cup or other prize which cannot be divided, the question should be determined by lot by the stewards, who, if it becomes necessary, shall also decide what sum of money if any is to be paid by the owner or nominator taking the cup or other indivisible prize to the other owner or nominator. 114. When a dead-heat is declared for the second place in any race in which the winner is disqualified, if any horse was placed fourth, the owner or nominator of such horse shall receive any money there may have been for third. 115. When horses run a dead-heat for first place, each of such horses is liable to carry extra weight as winner of that race. But, for the purpose of calculating the amount of weight, each horse shall be deemed to have won in respect of such race the proportion of such prize payable to its owner or nominator, in addition to any amount deducted under rule 93 a for riding fees, but subject to the deductions-authorized by rule 60. The new rule and amendments are to come into force on August 1 next.
