May 24.— Fairmount Park is ready for the opening and the racing strip has been at its best for a week. A large crew of men is placing everything in order and Shaun Giimartin, in charge of the mutuel department, has been on the grounds for two weeks and has his organization shaped up. With the arrival of three stables at Fair-mount Park today, and several more expected tomorrow from Kentucky, the racing complement for the impending meeting will be practically complete, and officials are predicting a very successful meeting in view of the greater number of horses of the better caliber. The stables reaching here today were Olin Johnson with eight and C. Hall with two from Beulab Park, and Dr. L. M. Holmes with seventeen from Aurora. The former two reached here this morning, the Holmes band arriving hue in the da 5. A number of horses are expected from Louisville tomorrow, including several intended starters in the 5,000 Fairmount Derby, to bs run June 2. Shelby We: t is expected with six, W. J. Curran with Jack Higgins and Black Gal, and W. H. Whitehouse is sending Colonel Shaw. Other stables expected from Churchill Downs are the large establishments of J. C. Milam and J. S. Ward, the former with seventeen and the latter with nine. Included in these consignments will be Lucky Hit and Dodgson, eligibles for the Derby. From present indications a large field will start in the Derby, the probable starters including Dodgson, Lucky Hit, Colonel Shaw, Misstep, Mop Up, Galahad, Bobashela, Ley-land, Jack Higgins, Toro, Alexander Pan-tages. The Show Off. William Penn, Aviator and Biloxi. The latter, the property of A. L. Kirby, came in three weeks ago with Music Shop, High Life, Nora and George Miles from New Orleans. Mr. Kirby has just arrived from his home. In his schooling operations starter William Snyder has beert using the Waite machine. It has been placed in the three-quarters chute and is used extensively. It is probable the machine will get its first test in the second race Saturday. Unless some of the more capale riders transfer their activity here from other tracks, there will be a dearth of good jockeys at the meeting. Among the riders expected are : L. Morris, W. Lauscher. J. Berry, C. Yates, C. Churchman, L W. Mumm, J. Ford, F. Reilly, L. -Aron, L. McClair, F. Clelland, W. Taylor, W. E. Smith, W. Richardson, T. Root. L. Cavens, H. Shropshire, B. Hodgson, J. Jones and M. Rose. Several of the more prominent riders are expected to have mounts in the Derby, coming here from other tracks. A
