CONDITIONS IMPROVE ♦ Fair Weather Results in Increased Attendance at Arlington Park. « Track Rapidly Drying Out but Still Difficult Enough to Test Stamina of Horses — Flattery Scores. « ARLINGTON HEIGHTS. III., June 7— The improved weather found a reflection in a greatly increased attendance at Arlington Park today. Small fields in the different races furnished spectacular contests. Severe track conditions continued to prevail and it required the more sturdily built mudlark to negotiate it successfully. Sunsard w«s one of the soundly beaten favorites. His failure came in the fifth race over the one mile inner track. The trying going proved his undoing after he had gone three-quarters mile. It left J. N. Camdens Flattery in command and she ultimately won by a big margin from Serajevo. The latter gamely overhauling Sunsard in the stretch drive. Mi Companero was the only other starter in the race. Gaffsman and King Basil were originally among the entries, but were found ineligible to start and had to be withdrawn. One of the worst upsets of the afternoon came in the second race, when the Three Ds Stables pair of maidens, backed to the exclusion of all the others in the race, failed badly, Cardo Blanco landing in third place. Betting activities during the afternoon were heavy, the public showing more boldness in its wagering. The first race, which was over a mile on the inner track, found Indra the outstanding favorite, going down to defeat, being led home by Scoop, with The Badger in second place. Indras failure was in the main due to poor riding, her rider being totally at a loss on the track, and he had his mount all over the course. The Badger and Scoop was the order during most of the race, Scoop shipping through next the inner rail to overhaul The Badger in the last seventy yards. Indra came from far back in the stretch to land in third place. FAVORITES DISAPPOINT. The second rac"1. which was for two-year-olds, found the Three Ds Stable pair. Sweet Lacruse and Cardo Blanco, prohibitive favorites, defeated. The main dependence, Cardo Blanco, was interfered with in the early running, which threw him out of the running. Sweet Lacruse moved promptly into the lead, attended by Boris, with President Kelly in third place. The la iter handled himself best In the going toward the end and overhauled Boris to win by a good margin. Boris, though tiring, was good enough to land second place from Cardo Blanco, which had closed a big gap. Walter It. was going fast in a contending position in the stretch when he fell heavily. His rider. 11. Jones, was badly shaken up by the fall and received a bad cut over his eye. He refrained from filling further engagements for the afternoon. The third, in which only four started, brought added incident when Huntsman, While on the way to the post, unseated his rider. He was immediately caught, but on being remounted ran away. Leyland, who had the mount, jumped off him. It was probably the best thing to have done, for the horse immediately slackened his stride and only ran riderless for a brief period before he ran toward the post again and was caught by the outrider. His fractiousness kept the others at the post for seven minutes. Take a Chance, a pronounc-d favorite, was easily best and won by a big margin. Huntsman gained steadily and wore down Bed Scot for second place, beating him home by a good margin. Turquoise, the only other starter, never cut much figure after the start. GOLDEN" IA REPEATS. Golden Mac. which had won in his start Wednesday with great ease, was a slight favorite in the fourth race, which was at seven-eighths, and won by a big margin, but the rider did not take much chance on his tiring in the stretch and kept him at his task. Donna Santa, after a slow beginning, weaved her way through into second place and was going fast at the end. Force finished in third place, after having had a prominent position all during the race. Mary-i ale and Sandy Lady were a pair of disappointments. They were badly outrun most of the way. Another favorite was bowled over when Wildrake succumbed to Ball Gee. The latter raced with Wildrake until the lower turn, .where he pas-el into the lead, and thereafter it was an easy matter for him to stay in advance, to win under restraint. Wildrake was easily second best and outstayed Her Answer. f ■ s ■■ — ■ ■ J. Continued on twentieth page. CONDITIONSJMPROVE Continued from first page. The latter was taken back sharply for no reason soon after the start and, going well approaching the stretch turn, managed to save considerable ground by staying close to the inner rail. Climax came from far back, but Bolton showed a disappointing effort and finished far from the leaders. R. Jones, who had been injured in the second race by a fall, resumed riding in the final race, at a mile, over the inner course. He was astride Mollie Dear and rode her to an easy victory over Fair Catch, with The Cossack third. Renbarg had the most support here, but tired after three-quarters, the trying going proving too much for him. Starter Lester Dean has placed Chief Tier-ney and Manzana on the schooling list. The stewards excused Kanduit from the seventh race, her owner, H. G. Bedwell, reporting that she had slightly injured herself while leaving the track after a light workout this morning. Banton was another of the Bedwell horses to be ailing after exercising .this morning.
