PARSONS GELDING SCORES • Seths Hope Proves Best in Capital City Handicap at Ottawa. 4 Patricia J. Finds Top Weight Too Much of a Burden — Kilmer Kepresenintivs in Front In Maiden Race. - I OTTAWA, Ont.. June 7.— Seths Hope, racing in the pink and blue colors of the western horseman James A. Tarsons and ridden by F. Silas, triumphed over the best sprinters that could be mustered for the Capital City Handicap at Connaught Tark today. In a hard drive after coming from well back of the leaders, Seths Hope, one of the lightweights that started, reached the end of the three-quarters in advance of Edward Arlingtons Clearance, which was beaten by a length and a half, while to take down the second portion of the purse the latter was under a stubborn drive to get the decision from O. F. Burkarts Amen-Ra. Patricia J., the top weight of the seven starters, found her weight too much and the best she could do was finish fourth, while Sun Friar, from which much was expected, was away in slow fashion from the barrier and, after reaching fifth place, was utterly helpless to make any impression on the leaders thereafter. For the second day of the spring meeting at Connaught Park weather conditions for the sport were ideal, although there was slight change in the condition of the track. However, this did not have any effect on the starters that came out for the different races and in all the afternoon surpassed that of the opening afternoon. Lord Willingdon and a party from the Government House journeyed out to the course and witnessed the sport from various sections of the Aylmer plant. The initial race, a test of one mile and seventy yards, fashioned for province-breds, that engaged but five ordinary performers, resulted in victory for the Riverdale Stables Atwood when, under good riding, he came from back of the leaders to finish with good speed through the final stages and, at the end of the race, led Davenport to the finish to register by three parts of a length, while L avenport was just a head to the good of McTab. Royal Pearl, the favorite, met with repeated trouble during the running and losing much ground at the stretch turn kept him from earning some part of the purse. The Belcourt Purse, the second offering of the afternoon and framed for two-year-olds, brought out a field of eleven to race over the-five-eighths distance, and Reighthol, a first-time starter, in the silks of W. S. Kilmer, was the one to graduate from the maiden ranks. She took the lead from Miserette after the first eighth, opened up a winning lead turning into the main stretch, but through the final stages she had to be ridden out stubbornly to resist the fast-closing rush of the rank outsider Rock Queen, which reached second place before Dainty Maid, another outsider. Reighthol was made the choice and her score was popular with the fans. Peggy M.. after being a prominent factor early, tired in the final eighth, but managed to lead the others to the end of the short race. Jockey J. J. OBriens license to ride on the Canadian Racing Associations circuit was ordered referred to the committee of the governing body at the next meeting. Racing secretary Gene Bury announced that for the remainder of the meeting at this point the scratch time daily will be 8 oclock. The following horses have been assigned to take outside positions at the barrier in their respective races at Connaught Park : Beaver-wood, Sniper, Bank Sweep and Quadrille. * , — .
