Hertz Carries Off IWoncy-Winning Honors, Chiefly Through Victory of Reigh Count In Kentucky Derby. ♦ — — Churchill Downs, the scene of the Kentucky Derby, finished a most successful meeting: Saturday, June 2, and during the twenty-three days term the grand total of C1,700 ■was distributed in stakes and purses. The Kentucky Derby was the richest race decided end, likewise, set a record for the amount to the owner of the winner when Reigh Count added 5,375 to his credit for capturing the coveted race. The daily average distribution amounted to 4,421.74, an unusually high figure. There were six stake races decided, of which the Clark Handicap was the most valuable, aside from the Derby. Chiefly through the victory of Reigh Count the stable of Mrs. J. D. Hertz accounted for the most money won, the totals amounting to 8,6and5. E. B. McLean had a large stable active all through the meeting and his racers collectively earned the imposing sum of 0,-648. Others who fared well were the Audley Farm Stable, with 5,383 to its credit, and V. H. "Whitehouse, with 5,004. By reason of winning the Derby, Reigh Count also accounted for the most money won among the horses, the total sum earned amounting to 6,725, which also included an overnight purse. Royal Julian is second on the list with 2,205 as his portion of the spoils. He achieved this amount by scoring in the Grainger Memorial Handicap and also winning two other purses, as well as landing third in still another. Jock is third on the list with 2,275, by reason of two winning races, while Easter Stockings is next with 1,790 to her credit. Misstep, second in the Derby, accounted for ,600, and Toro, which was third, earned ,000 as his share of the rich stake. J. F. Schorr, trainer of the E. B. McLean stable, easily led the trainers at the Louisville track with eighteen winners to his credit. R. C. Frakes is second on the list with but half that number, while K. Spence of Audley Farm is third with six. E. Ambrose carried off the riding honors of the meeting when he scored with fifteen of his mounts. A. Abel and W. Garner were tied for second place with thirteen winners each to their credit. W. Fronk was third with but two winning mounts less.
