WINDSOR OPENS SATURDAY Prospects Bright for Excellent , Meeting Under Management of W. R. Woollatt. WINDSOR, Ont, June 12.— Much enthusiasm and not a little sentiment will mark the opening of the racing season here on Saturday. An indication of the enthusiasm and a most successful meeting under the management of William R. Woollatt lies in the number of horses already on hand and those that are following and which will have been unloaded by Saturday. The sentiment attaching to the meeting among race followers and owners is due to the fact that the spring meeting of the historic old Windsor Jockey Club track will be the first of the two meetings of 1928 that will mean a farewell to the course, which was opened thirty-five years ago. It is the opinion of all concerned that the honorable and untainted career of the track is in good hands, under the management of Mr. Woollatt, to bring it down to the finishing wire with its record unblemished. Mr. Woollatt is most popular among both horsemen and the Canadian rating public. Horses are here from many of the Canadian tracks, from Kentucky, Clairmount, Arlington and from the Fast, Notable among the easterners which will participate is the second band of the Greentree Stable, which is brought here by Nate Byers. P. C. Chinns band was first in from Kentucky, having arrived from Latonia a week ahead of the meeting last Sunday. Featuring the opening days card will be the Gadson D. Bryan Memorial, for a purse of ,500, for three-year-olds and upward, at a mile and a sixteenth. James F. OHara of Baltimore, Al Weston of Baltimore and W. A. Hewitt of Toronto will be the stewards of the meeting and Gene Bury of New Orleans, W. A. Burke of Baltimore and Paul Miles of Havre de Grace will be the judges. Charles Henry of Chicago is racing secretary and Harry Morrissey will act as starter. James Dew will be in charge of the sixty-five mutuel machines.
