COX RACER SHOWS THE WAY Watch the Time Victor After Spectacular Drive in Stretch. ♦ Extreme Outsider Proves B«st In Feature at Connauglit Park — Plagner Seores In Iirst Race. OTTAWA, Ont., Juno 12— Watch the Time, racing for Mrs. H. D. Cox, accounted for the best race at Connauglit Park today, the semifinal day of I he meeting, when he measured strides with seven other route performers in the mile and seventy yards Chateau Laurier Purse, which was decided fifth on the program and under claiming conditions. In one fo the most spectacular finishes of the meeting the Cox starter was able to score his victory after a stubborn drive with Laetaiius, which races for Harry C. Hatch. Following Lac-tarius at the end of the journey and beaten two lengths for second place came O. F. Burkarts Amen-Ra. Watch the Time was considered to have but slight opportunity to win from the others he started with and the result came as one of the biggest surprises of the present meeting at the Aylmcr course. From a start that found the field away in good order Hesper went into a good lead to show the way to Puget Sound and Lactarius, while the olhrrs were close at hand and waiting for the leaders to tire. However, Hesper continued his pacemaking to the far turn, where Irishman sent Puget Sound up on the insiile, but was blocked. Watch the Time and Laetnrius both began their moves at ".his stage and displaced the first two in the stretch and thereafter staged a thrilling duel, with the Cox starter holding to his task in gallant fashion to get the verdict in the fast time of 1:41 flat, just two seconds behind the track record at this course. LORD W1LMNGDON PRESENT. Another ideal day for the sport brought a big crowd to Connauglit Tark and once again his excellency Lord Willingdon was on hand to witness sime interesting races. Juveniles met in the five-eighths of the first race and with the running came a surprise when Stein Chaser, which was overlooked in the wagering, raced to an easy victory to reach the end of the journey before Green Flag, which received good support, while Showery, the public choice, finished third. Showery, as usual, went out to show the way and she raced into a winning lead after the first half mile was covered, but once again showed her quitting propensity when, on reaching the eighth post, she retired rapidly and Stern Chaser, in nearest pursuit, took command inside the last eighth to reach the end of the journey a half to the gcod, while Green Flag, coming with belated speed after being outrun, drove into second place to easily take the measure of the favorite. J. Judge supplied the winner of the three-quarters dash, which was second on the program, when Plaguer carried his silks to a hard earned victory over the heavily supported ilazcl L. to score by the smallest of margins, while into third place and beaten six lengths for the place prize came Solidity which in turn was fifteen lengths in the van of Jaggcr. This event was entirely framed for province-breds and Hazel L. received heavy support and she flattered by going into a winning lead the first half-mile, but when pressed by the winner, which displaced her at the eighth post, she tired badly with the result that she met defeat by the scantest of margins. DELAY AT THE POST. Twelve sprinters of good class faced the barrier for the five and a half furlongs sprint, the third race, and in this starter Cassidys patience was tested when thirteen minutes elapsed before an alignment could be effected, but when the field was finally dispatched a good st-.irt resulted, although Santa Sweep, one of the favored ones, was eliminated when she was sharply knocked back with the release of the webbing and throughout the contest was far back. The winner turned up in Nichelson, which after following the early leader, False Face, took command when the latter tired at the stretch turn and in the final stages drew away to score by a length and a* half, while False Face, favored by his long early lead, staggered in to take second place b3fore Stuarts Draft and B.uemont, which led the others to the end. Sporting Vein, which races for S. P. Taylor, made a show of the band that started in the mile and seventy yards fourth race, for which he was confidently backed, when, after following in the wake of Inlaid and Support for the first three-quarters, Dougherty sent the winner into the lead with a rush in the stretch and through the final stages the. winner drew away without effort to cross the winning mark eight lengths in the van of Inlaid, while Support lasted to take down the minor award from Rockland Boy. The latter, in view of recent good races, showed little of the speed that returned him winner in his previous effort and for three-fourths of the. race followed far back and at the end was just able to pass the tiring Civility and Ageofreason, both ordinary platers. Foreman scored at the expense of a poor band that matched strides for the mile and one sixteenth semi-final race when he came from behind to wear the leaders down rapidly and at the end, under pressure, reached the front to lead Accokeek by a half length, while just a neck back of the latter came Kin.sh-y under a poor ride by Kiniry. Sun Swept, one of the favorites, bled before half a mile was covered and was pulled up by his rider and went off the track in a sore condition.
