WINNIPEG OUTLOOK BRIGHT i Indications Point to Most Successful Meetings at Polo Park and Whittier Park. WINNIPEG, Canada, June 13. — Horsemen from the Middle West who find that on account of so many thoroughbreds being on hand at some of the tracks their chances of profitable racing are greatly reduced are turning their attention to the Winnipeg meetings, " according to the number of inquiries for stable room which are being received by R. James Speers. manager of racing. The first of the Winnipeg meetings will commence at Polo Park, a three-quarters 5 mile track with chutes, June 16. The meeting is for seven days and will be followed by one of equal duration at new Whittier Park, a five-eighths track with chutes, June 26. • Then there will be two more meetings at Winnipeg and one at Calgary later in the ; summer. At Winnipeg no purse will be less than 00 and there will be a daily handicap of ,000. There will also be two stakes with 1 ,500 added money. The first is the Western Canadian Handicap, one mile, at Polo j Park, on opening day. The other is the 2 Speers Handicap, one and one-sixteenth miles, and open to horses bred any place in the * world. This will come the opening day at new Whittier Park, June 26. During the two early summer meetings at Winnipeg the total money distribution will be approximately 3,000. Each year the racing at Winnipeg and Calgary has shown a healthy growth in purses and total handled by the mutuels. The attendance has kept mounting also. The new stall starting gate will be used by starter James Donovan. No change has been made in officials. Judges George W. Schilling will be presiding steward, 11. D. Monroe, racing secretary, and judge E. D. Adams will be the steward representing the Prairie Breeders and Racing Association, the governing body for the sport in western Canada.
