NEW COURSE AT MONTREAL Kings Park Almost Completed — Inaugural Meeting to Open Friday, July G. MONTREAL, Que., June 27.— It is the claim of tho promoters of Kings Fark, Montreals new race course, that they have the finest half-mile racing plant in Canada and a visit to the scene of the new enterprise indicates that their statement is not far-fetched. Situated within 100 yards of Mount Royal, on the Cote Liesse Road which shortly is to be broadened into a boulevard, the new-course is placed among picturesque surroundings. The plant itself is now nearing completion, and will be ready for the meeting which opens on July C and runs seven days. The track is more than a half mile course, there being a five-eighths chute. The track is raised all around its circuit, the turns being banked high and built upon heavy rock which was taken from the ground. This gives a solid footing and at the same time insures drainage. The grandstand is almost finished, and would be a credit to any track. It is a raised stand, with the pari-mutucl department underneath. Three broad flights of stairs lead to the front of the stand, while inside there is another set of stairways that will be particularly useful in rainy weather. It will be possible for patrons to visit the paddock, and the betting ring and return to the grandstand seats without being exposed to the elements, for there is a roof covering the intervening space of some fifty feet between the end of the stand and the paddock. The stand is 240 feet long and has accommodations for 4,500 people. In front of the stand is a broad lawn, there being 150 feet between the foot of the stand and the edge of the course. There will be double fencing to allow a space for jockeys and officials to pass to and fro. What is claimed to be ait innovation in half mile courses in Canada is a handsome club house at the northern end of the grandstand, to the right of the entrance. The club house is of brick and will be finished with mahogany inside. It is 51 by 40 feet, two stories in height, and broad verandas will face on the track, the club house being built at an angle which provides a splendid view of the racing on all parts of the course. For the accommodation of lady patrons in the grandstand there is a mezzanine floor, with two large, well-lighted rooms, furnished with wicker chairs and setiees and suitable rugs. The track will not be equipped with barns, as the Mount Royal track is adjacent and the two managements are closely identified. Receiving barns are being constructed to house forty horses, it being the intention to lead the thoroughbreds for the first three races across and later bring on the other entries before each race. There is a large paddock, which is well protected. The covered space between grandstand and paddock is to be floored with tiling.
