| WOODBINE TURF NOTES J .. ® TORONTO, Ont.. May 18. C. V. Cushman, wlio had his trainer, W. J. Norton, ship a band of the Eastland Farm horses to Woodbine, will be here with a party of friends some day during the meeting. Doc Trover reports that his good mare Compromise has foaled a fine looking bay eolt by Old Kocnig at the Blackwell Farm near Havre de Grace. T. J. Healey came from New York for the opening days sport. During the meeting a party made up of Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Salmon, their son and several friends will be at the Woodbine. George Duller, the famous English steeplechase Jockey, is coming up from Belmont Park to ride Rubigny for the Dorwocd Stable. The stable of Mrs. J. Simpson Dean was shipped direct to Ottawa at the conclusion of the Pimlico meeting. Trainer Muiholland Is still in Wilmington, Del., recovering from an illness that incapacitated him for a couple of weeks. J. J. Farrell, who is custodian of the Jockey rooms, reports that the following valets have been passed on by the stewards : H. Male, Norman Charlton, G. Brooks, A. S. Laisburg, G. Best, W. Stevenson, P. Hopkins, B. Forehand, C. Hutchinson, E. Maunder, A. Courtney and E. Pollard. J. J. Murphy was an arrival from New York with Royal Stranger and Rubigny. This pair will carry the colors of the Dor-wood Stable at the meeting. Tom McCreery was an arrival Friday afternoon with several horses. Clyde Phillips got in from Jamaica. At the conclusion of the Toronto meeting, Wm. Irvine will leave for New York with The Heathen. The other horses that he is training will be turned over to some other trainer. J. P. Smith, head trainer for the Dorwood Stable, came up from New York City to saddle Rubigny for the Aintree Steeplechase. D. Hi?gins, one of Canadas famous sportsmen, as well known on the Riviera as in New York, Ontario and Quebec, came down from his home in Prescott to witness the running of the Kings Plate. David Nicholsen, who quoted odds in the old days of the bookmakers, was among the old-timers present. Nicholsen stopped over for the afternoons sport on his way back to Montreal from New York City.
