THE HEATHEN, a quick beginner, raced into a good lead after going the first eighth, raced under light restraint until reaching the stretch turn, then was shaken up and drew away steadily when Hearing the finish. STEPHANUS followed the winner closest from the start and made a game rush when approaching the eighth post, but was inclined to swerve in behind the winner and was tiring at the end. CONTEMPLATE was a forward contender and ran a good race. THE TARTAR lost ground on the turns. CAMIANINI ran poorly. BUAMABIAU showed early speed. The others ran ponrlv. NATURES EVE, fractious at the post, delayed the start, but began fast and, showing fine speed, secured racing room on the inside and. taking the lead, outfinished THROW BACK. The latter, away well, raced close up and made a game finish. FREETHINKER closed a gap into the lead after entering the home stretch, but tired fast in the last eighth. FLYING FABRIC could never reach the leaders. ILSTON WHITTIER raced gamely. MISS DENTYNE showed early speed and tired. ARCHIPELAGO began slowly. FAUVETTB was in trouble early. Won easily; second and third the same, RUBIGNY, jumping in easy fashion, was saved close up for the first turn of the field, then took the lead at the ninth jump and, drawing away, was easing up at the end. DRAGON DE VERTU moved up gamely in the last half mile, but was held safe easily. HUFFY, far back for one and one-half miles, made up some ground, but was tiring badly at the end. MALVOISINE raced well to the twelfth jump and tired badly. TOP NOTCH showed speed for a mile and quit. SPECIAL ACCOUNT showed high speed for a half mile, but lost his rider at the sixth jump.
