FINE START AT MONTREAL More Than 6,000 Attend Opening Day Races, Cheer Victory of Mart Malone. MONTREAL, Que., May 18.— Montreal racing had its most impressive opening in years when Saturday afternoon Kings Park track was crowded to the limits of its capacity by a throng which took even the track management by surprise. More than 6,000 were present, the biggest opening day throng in years, and particularly impressive in view of the fact that cool and cloudy weather had prevailed all afternoon. The carded feature for the opening was a dash of three-quarters, which brought out some smart performers to sprint through the heavy going which prevailed. The winner was Mart Malone, the second winner saddled by trainer C. Ferraro during the afternoon and the second ridden by jockey Frank Dougherty. The start was out of the new starting stall and the score was an easy one for the winner. He broke with good speed, assumed a winning lead. The real fight was for second place, which Hippias wrested from High Seas nearing the far turn, and held safely afterward. Kosciusko made a stout bid at the end, but was not quite good enough. — a
