■ I fcHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES J $ ♦ LOUISVILLE. Ky., May 18. The horses trained by Henderson were shipped from Pimlico to Fairmount Park. George H. Bull, secretary of the Saratoga Racing Association, accompanied by Charles : Theriot, were among the New York visitors that arrived Friday. Harry Curtis, son of Vice-President Curtis, came from Chicago to view the Derby running. Mr. Curtis was accompanied by his wife. John J. Raskob, national chairman of the democratic committee, and Jouett Shouse, chairman of the democratic executive committee, were distinguished visitors. Lyman T. Hay, president of tiie Fairmount Park track, and general manager C. Bruce Head, came Friday morning from St. Louis to witness the big race. Both will return to St. Louis Sunday. Mr. Head spoke optimistically about the Fairmount Tark meeting, which inaugurates next Saturday ar.d concludes Juiy 6. Mr. Head received assurances from several of the horsemen here that they would ship their representatives to start in the Fairmount Derby, which, in previous years, has attracted the countrys outstand-H. J. Thompson, trainer of E. R. Bradleys Blue Larkspur and Bay Beauty, who is making favorable progress following an operation for appendicitis which he underwent last Wednesday, has his hospital room equipped with a radio set through which he expects to follow the Derby performance of the three-. year-olds which he trained for todays race. The original Derby field of twenty-six had its initial reduction when O. A. Bianchi, Lex-s ington turfman, withdrew St. Ignatius and Hiram Kelly. He put in scratches for the two horses about 10 a. m.
