HYPOLUXO MUCH IMPROVED » Vanquishes Uluniu and Thistle Fyrn in Post Dispatch Purse. 1 Ideal Weather and Track Conditions Reflected in tixnlly Attendance at Fairmount Park — Interesting Racing. 1 PHI UN II VII Jit HI., June 10— The Post Dispatch Purse featured this afternoons program of racing provided by the Fairmount Jockey Club and, in this main event, there was a victory for the stable of W. F. Benton, when that owners good three-year-old colt Hypoluxo. greatly improved, responded with one ot his best performances, to be the winner at the end of the one mile. He vanquished Uluniu. Thistle Fyrn, Angelena and Ben Marshall. Hypoluxo won by a margin of two and a half lengths and was timed for the mile in 1 :40Vs- Thistle Fyrn, which raced in the colors of G. Collins, was the most popular with the public, and the good filly, which raced second behind the crack Karl Eitel in the renewal of the Fairmount Derby, prevailed a heavy favorite. Though unable to do better than finish third place. Thistle Fyrns performance was a good one throughout and she was capably ridden by the apprentice V. Smith. Uluniu took the lead from a good start and went out to set the pace in a commanding manner during the first three-quarters of the way. Ben Marshall was in closest pursuit, followed by Hypoluxo. The latter was close up under restraint and with Thistle Fyrn and Angelena following, but not far out of it. Uluniu began iosing ground fast at the entrance to the stretch and failed to resist the rush of Hypoluxo, which was sent up on the outside. Hypoluxo then moved past into a good lead and, increasing it slightly in the final eighth, easily won going away. Thistle Fyrn. outrun to the stretch, then came fast and gamely on the outside, finishing as fast as the winner and just failed by inches of getting up to wear dowi, Uluniu for second place. The weather was ideal and track conditions perfect for the conduction of the sport here this afternoon, and another large crowd made the trip to the course to be on hand for the inauguration of the third week of Fair-mount Parks racing. The Pocahontas Purse, serving as the secondary feature attraction and bringing out a shifty band of two-year-old fillies, resulted in still another victory for the G. Collins ; Stable when E. Haughton sent Thistle Ann. ridden by V. Smith, to the post and she ■ promptly responded with a sparkling victory at the expense of some good youngsters, of which Princess Isabel raced to second place, and Ruth Long managed to account for the • third share of the purse. Thistle Ann was : well-backed and prevailed an odds-on favorite and her victory marked the first success I of a favorite during the afternoon. She I took the lead at the start, set a fast pace all the way. and after standing off challenges i from Princem Isabel midway of the stretch. came again in the final eighth to draw away to win by five lengths, with much in reserve. L. Gentry lurnished the winner of the first : race, for maiden two-year-olds, in his first-time starter, Valdosta. Jockey M. Meyer rode a good race astride Valdosta, a son of Upset : and Ednaris. This first-time starter unexpectedly ■ vanquished a large band of juveniles, ■ including My Lava, which showed a good performance to take down second i place, while Mid Mint, always a keen factor, was third. Thistle John, the favorite, was outpaced from the start and was hardly able to improve his position at any stage. The P. O. Anderson and C. R Anderson Stable of racers was shipped from Fairmount Park to Chicago. • —
