LYDA MAE began slowly, had to race wide most of the way. but moved into prominence before reaching the stretch and, holding on gamely, wore down ROYAL EQUITY in the last few strides. ROYAL EQUITY began well and, disposing of VLADIMIR, moved into a clear lead, but tired in the closing strides. CHENG TU was away in a tangle, was ridden wide, but came steadily in the last sixteenth. HAND1WORKER closed an immense gap from a slow beginning. VLADIMIR tired fast in the last eighth. CALCITE and MISS NOBODY tired. Scratched— 30830 Bunyora, 114; 35411 Mary Eloise, 111. JOE EXGEL, well up at the start and given a good ride, wore down the leaders in the stretch and drew out in the last twenty yards. BRUNO began quickly and, under a hustling ride, just lasted for second place. WALTER R. came with a rush in the last eighth. NARVA, under a poor ride, suffered Interference and closed a big gap and would have won under stronger handling. BANSET came from far back in the last quarter. BOWLER tired. PRINCETON quit. The latter almost lost her rider at the start and raced into prominence at once, but. under poor riding, gave way steadily near the end. OUTER HARBOR showed a good effort and would have been closer up with a more energetic ride in the last eighth. SWEET SENTIMENT had the best of the start, but lost ground on the turns by swerving out. CANAAN, outrun in the first half mile, was ridden vigorously thereafter and, responding gamely, moved into the lead with a rush in the last sixteenth and held DOWAGIAC safe to the end. The latter showed a vastly improved performance over the preceding start. DOWAGIAC was slightly bothered at the start, but moved into prominence in the first quarter and disposed of LONGRIDGE in the last eighth, continuing gamely to the end. LONGRIDGE showed high speed for three-quarters before tiring. BLESSEFIELD acted badly at the post and tired aiter half a mile. Overweight — Longridge. 1 pound. The latter began hlowly and when racing well was sharply interfered with, but came again in the last quarter and finished fast. ACCOUNT had to race wide most of the way, but came fast in the stretch. SAFETY PIN suffered at the first turn when AQUAPLANE tried to bolt and raced well in the stretch. CROFTON tired badly after reaching the stretch. The latter suffered from poor riding and would probably have won with better handling. PRINCELY raced well. PAULA SHAY quit after leading to the last eighth. SCOOP bolted on the first turn. Overweight — Pearlies Girlie, 2 pounds.
