MARE MUCH IMPROVED Fannie J. Accounts for Homewood Feature in Easy Fashion. • Riding of Neal Factor in Success of Spencer Representative — Gotham Scores Again. t HOMEWOOD, III., June 28.— The substitution of P. Neal for C. Grassia, coupled with the going that prevailed at Washington Park today, worked improvement in Fannie J.s running, and she led a good band home in the feature race, winning from Devon, with Mai-iva in third place. Fannie J. was given confident support, and displaced Maxiva and Huane in favoritism. She began fast, and moved into a good lead, with Beauregard her closest pursuer for the first quarter. Thereafter she was pressed hardest by Devon, but she continued gamely and only for a brief period in the stretch was seriously menaced. Devons challenge, beginning the stretch, was of short duration and, just when he appeared most promising, he suddenly tired and left Fannie J. to go on her way undisputed, to win under restraint. Maxiva finished in third place, a considerable distance back from Devon, with Huane following her and Beauregard acting as whipper in. Maxivas showing was somewhat dull, and she was far out of the running. The storm during the night made the footing difficult, and favorable for mudlarks. Ideal weather was the order, however, and it helped to bring out another big crowd. Those speculatively inclined must have fared in good style, for choices won with regularity. SUCCESSFUL DEBUT. The Three Ds Stock Farm Stables colors were introduced for the first time this season at the track and made a successful debut when Dixie Dreamer registered a victory over eight highly regarded fillies. Dixie Dreamer raced as if best and had to be to win. She was away in a tangle and a sufferer by interference, which caused her to be in last place in the early racing, but moved up with determination when Coltiletti urged her hard, and, wearing down the leaders in the stretch, won drawing away. Mary Eloise finished in second place and for a time, when beginning the stretch racing, looked like the winner. She was not good enough to withstand the rush of Dixie Dreamer. Photos Star came from far back to outstay Coal Black Rose for third place. Jockey R. Ayraud signalized his return to the saddle, after his ten-day suspension, by riding Shift to an easy victory in the second race that attracted thirteen starters, half of which were decidedly unruly at the post and gave the starter and his assistants all sorts of trouble. Shift showed a liking for the going and spread-eagled her opponents after reaching the lead in the first quarter. Anita M.. which had been away poorly and had to overcome early interference, came with a rush in the stretch to land in second place, with Black Flyer far in advance of the others. FIVE STRAIGHT. Gotham continues undefeated at Washington Park and made it five straight victories when he won the third race in easy style from Homewood, with Bill Seth in third place. Gotham was kept restrained in the early stages, while Homewood was setting the pace, but he took command when call33 on and in the stretch increased his advantage to ultimately win easily from Homewood. The latter was never in serious danger of losing second place in the stretch racing, for Bill Seth, which had been taken back repeatedly and made to suffer interference as well as being ridden through the deepest going, never figured strongly. At the end he outstayed the tiring True Boy. The victory of the Raneocas Stables Capture in the fourth race marked the fourth successive favorite to win during the afternoon. Capture never left the rt ult in doubt. for she moved into the lead soon after the start and, allowing Bachelor Skipper to race in close proximity to her for three-eighths. moved away when called on and won easily. Bachelor Skipper displayed fine speed to race close to the leader in the early stages, but began tiring in the last eighth and had to be ui-Red to keep in advance of Nettie Belle. The latter showed a good performance, as did Blue John. Blewaway, a well backed one, succeeded in the sixth race, which brought to the post some ordinary ones, with Ham a pronounced favorite. The latter finished second, racing in closest pursuit from the start and was gaining steadily in the end. Gold Ridge, under energetic riding, finished third, but was aided to that portion of the purse by Milady racing wide and swerving in the stretch. Open Go Shut furnished an upset in the final race, over one mile and a quarter, in which he led for the entire distant and won well in hand with much in reserve from Semper Felix, with Firebush in third place. By Gosh, the favorite, raced disappointedly. D. Fountain, who arrived from Ix s Angeles, was among the visitors. Mr. Foun- tain expects to open a public training stable here. Jockey P. McGinnis departed today for Hamilton, Ont., where he will ride. Trainer Woods 1itzu. i aid. in charge of the eight horses he will race for G. L. Watkins at Arlington Park, was among the visitors at Washington Park. Fred Hood, agent for the Three Ds Stock Farm Stable, was among the days visitors. It was his first trip to Washington Park,
