GUERRAS RIDING FEATURES ♦ Cuban Jockey Pilots First Three Winners at Devonshire. i A. R. Freemans Midhonr Canters In Ahenl of The Orleanian in Ladies Day Purse, Ran on Muddy Track. WINDSOR. Ont.. June 23.— The riding of J. Guerra, the Cuban jockey, was the feature of the second days racing at Devonshire Park when he piloted the winners of the first three events. He started by annexing the first race on Belascoain. followed this up by riding Fire Girl to victory in the next and then won the third with The Engineer. The fifth race, at one mile and a sixteenth, styled the Ladies Day Purse, was the nearest approach to a feature. It resulted in a victory for A. R. Freemans Midhour, which was a cantering winner over The Orleanian, from the stable of C. E. Davison, with the short end of the purse going to Mrs. V. Arns Genial. The start was a good one, with the Freeman gelding beating the others to the first turn. Once in command, all Horn had to do was to sit still and the farther he went the farther he drew away, until at the end he was seven lengths clear of The Orleanian. The latter, rated off the early pace, began moving up going down the back stretch, closed strongly through the home stretch and. though much the best of the other starters, could never get within hailing distance of the victor. Genial, a well fancied one, was, as usual, slow to begin, came to the outside of his field leaving the back stretch, closed with splendid energy and was up in time to wear down Cogwheel for third place. Heavy rains of the early morning turned the track into a veritable quagmire and the blue pencil was much in evidence. It was Ladies Day and another large crowd was on hand. H. Torrientes mare Belascoain won the first race, making a game finish after moving ur fast in the stretch. She had to be at her best to beat out Follow Me, which came fast in the last sixteenth of a mile. Miss A. Nelsons Margarita Ahearn ran well throughout and saved third place from the rush of Paige. Sun Rock was another which finished fast. Fire Girl, a filly which was seen in Washington Park races a short time ago. did not waste any time before winning a race here. She took todays second and had plenty to spare at the finish after having disposed of Easter Seth, which had considerable early speed. The latter had all she could do in the last stages to keep clear of Cliftons Lass, which would have been a serious menace to Fire Girl if she had not raced wide all the way, after an indifferent start. The third race was another for H. Tor-riente, whose The Engineer showed a good effort to win a close decision over Thrace. The latter was always a strong contender and he was almost on even terms with The Engineer in the last strides. Houston went well and finished third. Marengo, the W. C. Morris gelding, continued the success he scored at Dufferin by winning the fourth race, at three quarters of a mile. Well ridden, he went into the lead in the stretch when called on and had plenty left at the end. Ted Healey made a strong finish to get second place. He was away fast, but was taken up and showed good courage in the contest he put up in the last part «.f it. Natures Darling finished fastest of all. but had been too far back.
