TANFORAN ATTRACTS STARS Eleven Carloads Arrive at San Francisco Course Sunday Golden Prince Included. ! SAN FPvANCISCO, Calif., April 1. Eleven carloads of horses arrived at the Tanforan race track- today. They came from Agua Caliente. The equine colony Avas brought up to nearly 200 Avith this shipment. Other arrivals in the next few days are expected to swell the number to 400, so that Avhen the bugle calls the first field to the post next Saturday afternoon for the first bona fide meeting on California soil in years, there Avill be enough horses on hand to provide spirited contests. The class of horses to race is excellent. More than 100 horses reached Tanforan Sunday and most of the number are now galloping on the track. Much Avork has been done on the course in the last few Aveeks to bring it to its present good condition. Considerable interest attaches to the coming of the four-year-old colt Mortgage, which was reported to haAe been destroyed folloAv-ing an accident at Agua Caliente some time ago. Mortgage has all the phenomenal speed usually possessed by the progeny of Morvich. In the race in Avhich he Avas supposed to haAe met Avith the fatal mishap, one of his fore ankles Avas so badly injured that he had to be carried off the track in a van. Major SAen Christenson happened to be near the stall Avhen Dr. E. E. Watson, Aet-erinary surgeon, told R. Pollard, trainer of the colt, which was racing in the colors of Mrs. Pollard, that the case Avas hopeless. Christenson spoke up: "Give me the horse. I think I can saAe him." Pollard and Watson were dubious as to the likelihood of Christenson bringing the four-year-old back to normal condition, but the trainer consented. Christenson immediately started, his heroic treatment and the colt is now in such promising condition that he was able to Avalk from the car Avhen the horse train arriAed at Tanforan. His neAV owner expects J.o haA-e him galloping in a short time. W. R. Norvell, Avho Avill serve as racing secretary and placing judge during the meet, arrived this morning from Chicago. Harry Morrissey, the starter, Avill be here Wednesday. This Avill complete the list of officials, as J. S.
