NEW WHITNEY IN RACING Son of Harry Payne Plans Own Stable Under Handling of Prominent Trainer. NEW YORK, N. Y., April 1 From authoritative sources at Belmont Park came the news yesterday that a newcomer to racing would embark in the sport in a lavish way. The newcomer is "Sonny" Whitney, son of Harry Payne Whitney. Rumors have been circulated about the big Nassau plant for some time that the young man has expressed a desire to own a racing stable and follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. It could not be learned whether young Whitney would branch out on his own or secure the nucleus of his planned stable from his father. It is understood, however, that several prominent trainers are under consideration to take over the horses to train. Horsemen yesterday pointed out that it was only natural for the young man to turn to racing and breeding of thoroughbreds. The stable, it is understood, will be assembled and raced during the Belmont Park meeting. II. P. Whitney, who is now in Europe, will not return here for several months.
