OJIBWAY PROMISING FILLY Bated One of Best Oaks Prospects Seen in Years at Latonia. LATONIA Ivy., April 1. The return of summer-like weather proved a boon to the many horses quartered at Latonia, and Sunday found the track presenting a busy scene with hundreds of horses preparing for the coming Kentucky season, -which will begin at Lexington April 17. None of the horses were called upon for any fast moves, but some, including the string of T. H. McCaffrey and W. H. AVhitehouse, were brought out on the track and showed signs of being ready to race. C. D. Rayling had T. II. McCaffreys Oaks candidate, Ojibway, on the course. She was accompanied by Lass o Mine, a recent purchase for breeding purposes. Ojibway galloped two miles with jockey Otis Clelland in the saddle. Eddie Arcaro had the leg up on Lass o Mine, which was sent one mile. Ojibway is one of the best looking and easiest moving Oaks candidates that has wintered at the course in many years and her owner is confident of her showing her true worth in action. This stable can also lay claim to four of the finest looking juveniles in Kentucky. All the youngsters in this stable were cantered two miles. Bully and Oswegatchie, worked in one set, while Honey Hunter and Duff went together. The gelding Tommy, which has fully recovered from a spell of sickness, was an arrival from Miami Sunday afternoon. Lon Johnson had W. H. AVhitehouses Royal Julian out and lie looks better than ever. He was worked under a strong pull with Frank Burley up. Take Off and Glycine, the three-year-olds in this stable, both appear to be in good form and both worked well. This stable also boasts of thre geood looking two-year-old fillies. The following comprises the string: Ojibway, b. f, 3, by Maintenant Clara Houghton ; Tommy, ch. g, 4, by Tim McGee Golden Autumn ; Lass o Mine, blk. m, 8, by Torch-bearer; Bully, b. c, by Colonel Vennie Nancy Lane ; Oswegatchie, br. c, by Jay Jay Calumny, and Honey Hunter, blk. c, by Honeywood. One of the finest riding prospects in this section is galloping horses for the McCaffrey outfit. Eddie Arcaro, who hails from Newport, Ky., and can scale around ninety pounds, has natural riding ability. He has good hands and a fine seat and has all the earmarks of becoming an excellent rider.
