PRUDERYS DERBY FINISH Prudery, the mare Avhich died re-. cently at the H. P: Whitney farm in Kentucky, was the last filly which finished in the money in the Kentucky Derby. She was third to Behave Yourself and Black Servant in 1921. That was the year the E. K. Bradley and H. P. AVhitney couples Avon the first four places in the Derby. Pruderys running mate was Tryster and this pair, as the AVhitney entry, was favorite in the race. An unusual circumstance was that her start in the Derby was her first , of that year. She had not gone to the post since the running of the Futurity Stakes at Belmont Park in September of 1920. In addition to this all but forgotten Derby distinction belonging to the Peter -Pan Polly Flinder mare, was that of being the dam of Whiskery, winner of the Derby in 1927. Few fillies have even started in the Derby since Prudery. Two were Startle, in the year Morvich won, and Ben Machree, last year. Both were unplaced. The only filly winner of the Derby was ltegret, in 1915. Regret carried only 112 pounds. As was the case when Prudery finished third in a later year, Regret had made no previous start that season. She had not been to the post since winning the Hopeful Stakes in August, 1914. e
