MAKING READY AT JAMAICA I Workmen Preparing Plant for Spring Meeting April 21. Grand Stand, Club House, Offices and Jockeys Quarters Being Renovated Paumonok Handicap Intial Feature. NEW YORK, X Y April 1G. At the Ja- ! maica track a force of painters, carpenters and plumbers are working full time to com- J plete the preparation of the grandstand, club house and offices for the opening of the spring meeting of the Metropolitan Jockey Club, which this year begins on April 21 and continues until May 14. The program for the twenty-pne-day session lists attractive offer-ings for thoroughbreds of all ages, and the stakes have been well patronized by horsemen. Under the personal direction of Dr. E. P. Kilrpe, president of the Metropolitan Jockey , Club, changes have been made in the ap- ; pearance of the club house. In the jockeys ; house modern hot and cold baths have been provided for the riders, and the dressing room has been repainted and thoroughly renovated. In the rear of the buildings the old wooden fences have been eliminated and a neat wire barrier has been substituted, improving the appearance considerably. Last year there was general approval of the new entrance pavil-lion. which is- large and spacious, and for additional comfort this year the platforms at the railroad tracks have been raised .and protected by a wide shed that will be of much benefit in rainy and stormy weather. Superintendent Maher has the racing strip, grounds and stable sections in excellent condition, clean and attractive, while the infield has been mowed and regraded. Jamaica is in better condition than at any time since the plant was built. As usual, the outstanding feature of opening day will be the Paumonok Handicap, i ,000 added, for three-year-olds and over, three-quarters.
