PHILADELPHIA HANDICAP VICTOR e INCEPTION IN FRONT Easily Carries Off 0,000 Feature at Havre de Grace. Bobashela, Dinah Did Upset and Molasses Jane in Furious Finish for Minor Awards. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 19. In-1 ception, racing for Mrs. O. Chaney, after forcing the pace all the way for the mile and a sixteenth of the ?10,000 Philadelphia Handicap this afternoon, was an easy winner from Bobashela, from the Audley Farm Stable, which had a narrow advantage over S. AAr. Labrots Dinah Did Upset and then came Nostaw. The race had a net value of ,550 and the winner was ridden by F. Stevens. There was a tremendous crowd out for the first Saturday of the Harford Association meeting and, while the skies were overcast, the weather conditions were favorable. The track was heavy from the recent rains and this brought about some scratching, but the entertainment that was offered was of a holiday variety. Little time was lost at the barrier in the Philadelphia Handicap and the start was a good one. Stevens had Inception away fast and the son of Sporting Blood showed a decided liking for the going when he took up the burden of the pace going to the first turn. Donnay had broken with the first three, but Steffen at once took him up and dropped him down on the inside. Then, when he ran into close quarters in the turn, he timidly eased back until the son of Donna-cona was under a serious handicap. Dinah Did Upset and Bobashela were the ones to go after Inception and they were well lapped, the three racing together when the back stretch was reached. Bocaratone was right there, while Annapolis was dropping back as though he did not fancy the going. And thanks to the timidity of Steffen and his pulling up tactics, the Rancocas hope was last of the eight that raced. PEXXATES GAMENESS. Harry Payne AVhtineys Pennate, the juvenile son of Pennant and Pageant, proved himself a game and courageous racer in the opening four and a half furlongs dash when, after beginning last in a field of thirteen, he circled around them all to be home a winner over Glidelia, from the Rancocas Stable. J. P. Jones Hieaway saved third from Sydka, the one to force all the pace, while the others, led by Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Exalt, were beaten off. There was a long delay at the post, for which Kaleidoscope and Pennate were largely responsible. Kaleidoscope, on one occasion, broke through with Ambrose and galloped off for an eighth, but at a pace that could have done no harm. The start was a good one, but Pennate left so sluggishly that he was last to be under way and it was a considerable handicap in such heavy going. Sydka was particularly alert and was rushed out and Kaleidoscope was right after her, with Miss Dinwiddie in the front division. Glidelia was in rather close quarters and Pennate brought up the rear, as has been told. Before the stretch turn was reached Pennate had circled around with such ease that it was apparent he would be right there at the finish, while Steffen brought Glidelia through on the inside to give the argument. At the end AVorkman had to shake up Pennate sharply to have him winner by a neck and Hieaway, which had always been well up. was at the heels of the Rancocas filly and just a length and a half before Sydka. The maiden three-year-olds that were brought together in the third race, at one mile and seventy yards, were rather above the average for non-winners and doubtless each one of them will not be a maiden by mid-summer. Full Dress, an eligible for the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby was an easy winner over R. H. Davis, Jr.s Politen, which raced third in the Florida Derby, and Zahn, from the Rancocas Stable, a distant third. The others in the company were Kings Crier, AVild Fowl and Mombasa and they trailed along badly strung out in the order named. AV. N. Adrians Prickly Heat gave Sonny Workman his second winner of the day 5n the fourth race at one mile and a sixteenth, , for cheap platers. He won rather handily from Boyish Bob, racing for the Norvo Stable, with G. C. Brentons Ruban Rouge a distant third and just beating Fascisto for that part of the-purse. The others trailed along with Jane Rinehart pulling up a distant last.
