TANF0RAN MEETING ENDS Attendance Exceeds Expectations of Management Plans for More Racing in the Fall. SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., April 19. The curtain was rung down on California spring racing this afternoon. Thoroughbreds have been kept busy on the West Coast since the Agua Caliente meeting got under way on December 28. The time has come for them to depart for other climes and it is with reluctance that turf fans of the Golden State see them go. Both horsemen and horses have made many friends on the coast, and the tribute paid them at Tanforan, where a successful twelve-day meeting ended this afternoon, is a certain sign that Californians want racing and plenty of it. The attendance at the popular San Mateo county course during the recent racing days has far exceeded expectations. Especially has the club house proved a popular rendezvous, the meeting place of society leaders for the last two weeks and on many occasions it was impossible to secure a table. While it has not been definitely decided whether or not the bay district fans will have a chance to see the thoroughbreds perform in the fall, it is more than likely they will have that pleasure. It is thought a short meeting will be given probably in November, preceding the Agua Caliente winter season. If such a season materializes the public will see many of the best runners in America at Tanforan, as the horse colony at the lower California track next season promises to be bigger and better than ever. Presiding steward Joseph A. Murphy and his associates are to be congratulated on the manner in which they have conducted the Tanforan meeting. Several special trains will pull out this evening carrying the horses to other tracks. A twelve-car train will depart for Tulsa, Okla., which meeting is to be given under the supervision of William P. Jvyne of San Francisco. Another detachment will go to Aurora to help open the Chicago racing season, while a third will leave for Agua Caliente to be rested up until the summer season which opens at the Mexican track on July 4. Most of the officials also will pull out tonight. Harry Morrissey, the starter, will leave for Aurora, 111. Judges Peter Clark and Joseph Gallagher have been engaged to officiate at Tulsa, while racing secretary Sam M. Rothert will return to San Diego. Judge Murphy will remain in San Francisco for several days before departing for the east.
