KINGS PLATE POSSIBILITIES » Froth Blower Probable Favorite in Oldest American Race. ♦ Bronze. Freethinker, Golader, Toe Dance, Vestip, Skygazer and Erlite Probable Starters. • TORONTO, Ont.. May 20.— While the outlook is for a keen battle in the Kings Plate, opening day feature at Woodbine Park Saturday, it is not likely that the field will be very large. At the present time the probable starters number fourteen, and include Bronze, Erlite and Fess in the Thorn-cliffe colors, Wilfred Davies insisting that Fess will be the third member of the entry in spite of stories to the effect that she will be saved for the Breeders Stakes. Man-anna was also entered by this stable, but has not stood training. The Seagram Stable may start three, but some doubt has developed about Golader starting, so badly was he beaten off by Freethinker in the last trial Tuesday morning at Woodbine Park. Toe Dance, though a rather unknown quantity, has trained well and will likely be seen under colors next Saturday. Chivalrous, Earthen Jar and Mythical Lore, the other entries from this stable, are not held in as high regard as the other three referred to above, and it will be rather surprising if any one of them starts. Evanette, the mainstay of the entry made by the estate of Mrs. C. A. Muir, has been going along fairly well in training, but it is doubtful if she will be up to the race. She has been only asked to show speed for six furlongs so far. International, the other candidate, can hardly be ready in time. Alex Skene, trainer of Fair Precious, has definitely declared his lone plate eligible out of the race. The Fletcher silks will probably be seen, and Gimme Girl looks like the best bet to carry the colors. Fujiyama was not even included in the shipment to Woodbine Park. Pampered Pet, Rosswin and Mongolian will hardly do. Continued on second nage. KINGS PLATE POSSIBILITIES Continued from first page. Froth Blower will surely start, and the Cowie hope is about sure to rule favorite. No other entry has shown as high promise in training, and none has been asked to do more. Trainer Giddings is supremely confident of victory. His charge is right on edge at the present time, and his training program between now and Saturday will likely be confined to short tests to keep him fit. Jockey Frank Mann will, of course, have the mount. The Riverdale Stable has no ambitions in this connection. Hedge Ray is the best of the three named by this outfit, but her training campaign has not been designed along Kings Plate lines. High Park, one of the H. C. Hatch entries, was not included in the shipment to Thorn-cliffe Park, so may be counted out. And Fatal Gift, the other nominee of this stable, ranks among the doubtful starters. R. Graham has no intention of sending Illumination after the Guineas, nor has L. S. Cochenour of starting Manotacks. W. H. Wrights scarlet and white silks are about sure to be seen. What the final selections will be, however, remains in doubt. At present it would seem as if Kirk-land Post and Jean ODoon are the favored ones. This stable also named Royal Bouquet, Speywood and Bon Entente. Lance Pennant, one of the two entries made by C. Coulter, is an undersized colt, but, being a maiden, he will be lightly weighted and might be among the starters. The other, Star Bloom, is definitely out. One is not taking much chance in marking Mrs. F. Sullivans Mark Rock, R. New-ells Nimbletoe and Redbourne, G. Moores Parisian Kee, W. E. Buhners Postville and Saucy Kid, Mrs. G. Cosfords Sand Ridge, Harbor Stables Sedgerose, W. T. McClains Sir Bonitac and Sir Bonisam, C. E. Furrys Single Sea, J. Benders Skys Window and Whinestone, L. Bochners Silver Dot, A. G. Walshs Lardy-Dah and G. W. Browns Lumis off the list The R. H. New stables main dependence will be Par Excellence. Royal Guest, the gray daughter of Royal Canopy and June Fly was considered the best hope to duplicate the feat of Aymond in the last Plate running, but illness set her so far back that there is scant chance of her being started. R. S. McLaughlin boasts an almost sure starter in Skygazer, a filly that has really surprised with the form she has shown under rigorous training, for she is not the rugged type. Roche DOr was highly regarded as a Plate prospect in the early stages of the training campaign, but has fallen by the wayside. Scherzando is the "dark horse" in this stable, but so far has not shown as much in training as Sky-gazer, and there are no serious intentions of getting Tetrarc ready, he being left at the farm. Vestip, the Upland Farms entry, which ran fourth in the R. H. New colors last year, was under cover until he came through with a sparkling work over the Plate distance one day at Thorncliffe Park. That one trial makes him look like a sure starter in the big race Saturday. It is likely the Kings Plate field will be selected from the following: Bronze, Fess, Freethinker, Froth Blower, Gimme Girl, Golader, Jean ODoon, Kirkland Post, Lance Pennant, Erlite, Par Excellence, Skygazer, Toe Dance and Vestip, with the possibility of that number being reduced by a few. «
